June Skywest Interview
Anyone interview at Skywest recently? Or have an interview setup this month? I'm looking for a more recent gouge. Aviationinterviews hasn't been updated lately.
I was called to setup an interview. Apparently they're interviewing everyday this month Mon-Fri. Have they always been interviewing that much? Or is this a recent change? |
I think they hadn't interviewed in May at all... picked it up in June to 5 days a week. In preparation for what, God knows....but it may have to do with whats being parked in FLO
|
Something is going on, but no one seems to know for sure. I can't understand why they are allowing transitions and upgrades? We are overstaffed on the RJ and they are allowing people to transition when they are short on the EMB? And now they are interviewing again? Anyone know how many are still left in the pool?

Just got a company wide hiring letter for June. No interviews as of now I guess.

I have interviews set up at some other places this month, so I was a little concerned about how long it would take hear back about a decision. I had read that it would take 5-10 days. But she told me that I'd know by the end of the interview day. I thought that was interesting.

Yea I interviewed May 1. Number 50 or so in the CRJ pool. The interview process hasn't changed from whats posted on aviationinterviews.com. It is very interesting how they are looking to hire so much and I still have no class date in site.
|
Yea I didn't hear back till the very end of day 10. Thought for sure I didn't get it at that point.

So Drums4life-what if you take the Bro? Would you get an immediate class date?
I guess I'll just use the old interview gouges. |

I talked to one of the RJ Captains who does interviews and he says they are interviewing AND hiring pilots every day in June. They also just send an email requesting applicants to become ground instructors - so something is definitely up.
|
Well, I put in my app recently. With my current track record, assuming I get an interview, SKW's stocks will plummet, hiring will freeze, and yet another reputable airline will be in shambles.
|
I just reread the email and it states, "The purpose of this interview is to select candidates for upcoming classes." Perhaps they mean upcoming in August.
|
Has anyone thought they are hiring people into a pool and might not even have any flying locked up yet. Then if they end up not getting additional flying "poof" class dates start to get pushed back and back until there is no class date.

Anyone have a suggestion which hotel to choose for the Skywest interview? Do they have shuttle pick ups from the airport? Do they have a shuttle to the Skywest hangar? Or do you have to get a cab? Lastly, does Skywest provide a shuttle from the hangar back to the airport at the end of the interviews?

Hope this is some help to you, good luck! |
Candlewood becomes a prison once you get in training, so you might as well get used to it now! But either of the above mentioned works well. They will take care of your shuttle to/from the interview and airport.
|
Comfort Suites all the way. Nicer place, free breakfast and I think its the same price.

Any hotel on the list they send you will work. They should all have a shuttle to and from the airport and hanger, at least I know the Candlewood and Comfort Suites do for sure. Tell them you are interviewing and they will give you the SkyWest rate. At the end of your interview call the hotel shuttle and they will take you back to the airport, SkyWest does not provide a shuttle.
Candlewood no longer does their own shuttle to the airport. It is contracted out, which means they bracket 30 minutes to actually show up. Not recommend. Comfort does have their own van. |

It is a good idea if you are at a questionable regional (mesa, XJet) so swim in another pool so if your airline were to furlough you are already in a pool when the swarm of unemployed pilots hit the market. |
Hey RPCV what date did you choose? Im interviewing on the 19th. Really excited as Skywest has been my number 1 pick for some time now. Anyone recommend the Sim preps up there in Salt Lake, American Aviation I think it is?

Thanks for the info !! I have interview on 25th
|
Red Baron in Santa Barbara also has a Frasca 142 sim, and there is at least one SKW pilot who works there.
I used both Bill J. at SunRise Aviation in Orange County, and Red Baron. |
Bill J. is the man at Sunrise Aviation/SNA for sim prep. ATC 810 is the sim you'll prep in there but you could get that sim or the Frasca 142 at your interview. The folks at your interview will like the fact that you had sim prep prior to your interview because it shows that you want the job so I highly recommend it. Approx. $150.00 for an hour & 1/2.

I talked to an interview Capt yesterday, a day after the announcement about Expressjet getting the 7 yr deal. Congrats btw. He told me that they got an email from Corp that instead of interviewing 5 days a week all thru June and July that now they would interview 5 days a week, every other week all summer. I asked what for and he said Corp has some things their working on and these are in no particular order.
1. We DO have a contract in place with Continental. 2. Horizon 3. The new express deal with United 4. People in the know don't expect Mesa to last much longer 5. They are not getting rid of the Bro's as originally planned so the new Nextgen CRJ's will be an increase to the fleet. He also said that if we had purchased XJet that they would have been run as a seperate entity just like ASA, so it would not have increased flying for SkyWest pilots. He also said that they are getting some high time applicants from Aloha, Frontier, and another one that I can't recall. Thats all I've got. Believe it or don't, I'm just passing on what he told me. Thought it might encourage some of you that got hired recently but are in the pool. He did not give me a time line but said that we're already overstaffed so something must be going to happen. |

This is NOT true. Either you misunderstood him, he lied to you, or they lied to him. The deal that SKW had with CAL would have given Skywest 29 aircraft to operate as Continental Express with Skywest pilots. |

Hmmm... me thinks the possible 30 aircraft we will put back in the CAL CPA may be these. It sounds like CAL was going to reduce us by 51 aircraft next year why giving Skywest the "30". Sounds like that is what may be worked out in the new 7 year CPA XJT has with CAL.
The aircraft that XJT is giving back to CAL are replacing the SRJs, one for one. There is no net gain. The deal with CAL/SKW was going to be for a net gain of 29 aircraft (to CAL). I believe CAL's last minute fleet reduction plan made them shy away from that and sign a CPA with XJT for a status quo of 205 aircraft, at least until next July. |

It was not a secret that SKW had negotiated a second separate CPA with CAL for 29 aircraft operated with Skywest pilots with XJT's aircraft.

Look at it again though. Because Skywest would sign a deal for 29 aircraft with CAL and we would shrink with CAL. We wouldn't be flying 205 aircraft for them. Hence there wouldn't have been a net gain with Skywest signing a CPA with them. Of course this is after CAL started a pulldown from XJT.
