If delta wants all these regionals out, then why did they sign 9 REGIONAL CARRIERS TO FLY FOR THEM. News flash to delta, a contract is a contract.

Some people have not figured it out yet. The Majors are the Mother Ship and if the Mother Ship is not making money or loosing money they will Do what ever they have to to satisfy their share holders, Dont Think for a min that they CANT cancel your Contract Cause they can do what ever they want too or if that dont work they can Always File for Chap 11 and reorganize.. its not personal its just Business

That's why they call it fine print. There's a zillion ways to get out of a contract.

Doesn't a contract work both ways?

Those contracts were signed under the previous regime when oil was cheap. A contract is a contract only has meaning when it's a good deal for management. Otherwise, it's not worth the paper it's written on.
Plus, and I don't mean this as a slam, but if you are providing lift as a contractor, you will always be vulnerable to the whims of the mainline. Regional partners come and go. That has always been the game and it will stay that way. It's nothing personal, it's just the airline business. No one ever mentions the dark, seedy, underbelly of the beast in those slick ads for those flight academies.

Back in the late 80's I was working for CAL Express (Trans Colorado Airlines). CAL told our management on a Wed that they we were no longer flying any of the DEN hub fligts starting the next Monday. Then within 30 days we were flying no CAL flights by CAL's choice! CAL's managements response to we have a contract was "take us to court". By the time court rolled around we were out of business.

This type of thing really sucks! What we need to work towards is not having contract carriers but rather all flying done by mainline pilots. This would mean bringing all the regional guys onto a mailine senority list and improving their working conditions and pay. ALP has always taken a top down approach to pay improvements, maybe its time to take a bottom up approach.
