Thanks for the input so far.
Thanks. I ask for those very reasons. Assuming I get offered a job, I'm looking at commuting from Texas. I'm more concerned with seniority, or lack there of. Thanks for the advice. |

Class dates are currently random; WAVIT can probably be more exact seeing he's a ground instructor, but I do know we are running an EMB class every month. As for the Equipment, you can get hired into either a/c but they are only running new hire EMB-120 classes so if you get the RJ expect to be swimming in the pool for a very long time. They might start a few new hires in the RJ classes but it's mostly transitions and upgraders plus the new hires who are called for the RJ classes probably interviewed 6+ months ago. If you get the RJ you can look forward to a swimming for 6+ months and then you’ll sit a year or more of reserve. Currently the shortest reserve domicile we have is ORD and its running 8+ months, but keep in mind that your reserve stint will be much longer with our current market and transitioning FO's.
If you get the EMB-120 you’ll probably only sit reserve for a few months then you'll get a line. My advice, which most everyone on here will agree with, take the first class you can get. It will more than likely be the EMB which in the long run will end up working in your favor (more money because you'll be holding a line, more days off, better seniority and when you move to the RJ you'll probably be holding a line). Whatever you do, don't be a SJS'r and wait for the Jet. Just keep in mind that seniority is everything, not equipment. Seniority can mean the difference between weekends off, holidays off, upgrades, transitions and even furloughs. Best of Luck. As of right now we are planning to start a class of 17 new hires on July 17th. Then those numbers will slightly increase. After the July 17th class we are planning a new hire class every month for about the next year for about 300 new hires in the next 12 months. This all from the most recent numbers meeting on Monday. Like I said, I can't tell you why but we are planning on some significant new hires. All subject to change of course. |

Actually the number for the CRJ look a bit better than that. I can't tell you why but I can tell you what the plans are.

Where in Texas, I'm from Farmers Branch (North Dallas). AA runs 2 MD80’s everyday from DFW to FAT and they always have seats available.

Sorry to butt in here but I have a question regarding Sky West that isn't worthy of starting a new thread. Can anyone tell me how many hours per month/year whatever you guys log and secondly, do they allow flying on the side...? Am currently flying a Citation CJ2 looking for more time...

As for your other question, it varies. If you’re on reserve one month you might fly 5 hours and the next 30 and the next 80 but if you hold an RJ line I’d expect an average of 950+ or so per year, if an EMB line you’ll be around 1050+ or so. Max Reg. block per year: RJ = 1000 EMB = 1200 |

With PBS and our trip trading program you can fly as much or as little as you want on the RJ. The Bro is a different story. |
Hey Wavit,
I am in the CRJ pool currently flying for another airline and am seriously considering coming to SKW. In light of what you know about future plans/staffing where do you believe new hires in the next 2 or 3 classes will be based? I asked a similar question in another thread and received 2 totally different responses. I'm a 15 year airline vet so I know the game. To make the move I need to be confident of being either at ORD or MKE fairly quickly. Any info you or anyone else can provide would help a lot! I know ORD and MKE has been the junior assignment until recently but in the other thread one guy said I'd be there right away and another said he has been trying to get in for like 14 months...... appreciate it! |
