So who is still hiring/not furloughing.. ?

So far, not bad. A good friend of mine who has been here 4-5 years has the theory that things are tough at all regionals, with some relatively minor differences.
I have heard horror stories from all kinds of companies, including the so-called "good regionals".[/quote]
The difference between Mesa and a "good regional" is that the "good regional are not run by known felons.
Take the upgrade as soon as you can... I honestly am of the opinion that Mesa Air Group will be bankrupt by the end of the year.

I begin upgrade training on September 3. It is a pretty scary thought, but a couple of wise airline vets told me never to pass up an upgrade opportunity. All I can do is study my butt off in the meantime and try my best to rise to the occasion.
Choosing an airline, if you are lucky enough to have a choice, is a roll of the dice. For me it came down to;

- The easiest possible commute to SAN. (It seemed like years before I would hold SAN with SKW).
- I really wanted to fly the Dash.
- Upgrades and improvements in seniority seemed as if they would happen more quickly with Mesa.
Holy smokes. I absolutely would not be ready to go from new hire IOE to captain. Godspeed to you on that ! I wonder if it was like this in the last days of Nazi Germany... "hey private, you're a general now. Good luck with the war, but we're leaving for Argentina now. Sieg Hile !"
As to your points;
1. You could have probably gotten San Diego within the year. The most junior is a 35xxx number, probably hired in the last 6 months. Also, the FO's on the EMB are holding a line from just about day one. If you're commuting anyway, anything with a one leg and lots of service is good.
2. We don't have the Dash. What's the attraction to that plane ?
3. Upgrades and seniority certainly will happen faster at Mesa. No question. They lost half their pilot workforce last year.
I hope you get your upgrade, if that's what you want. Actually, I hope the company doesn't go under before you get the ATP. Good luck.
I do my type ride on the late night of Aug 4, at the SkyWest meca of St. George, UT.

I've been living in Chicago since college...and currently I have 5 roomates, so I broke it down that all I need is about 1k to take care of bills/rent. I figured if I go into Mesa full knowing that it's going to suck ass, it wont be that bad. Any thoughts to my philosophy? It's either that or keep on instructing and hope the better regionals, which i had original set my sights on, open back up their doors next year or in the near future.

I think we might still be interviewing at Pinnacle--possibly hiring into a pool at least from what I've heard...I imagine we might run classes if the ATL stuff ends up staying, but that's all speculation and subject to change of course. Despite what might have been said in other venues, I thought our training was great (except maybe the shared hotels in training), and you'd probably avoid the Jet U crowds if we run anymore classes this year due to the increase in experience levels among new hires recently. You'd probably be in class with floughs from Skybus/ATA/Champion/other regionals/etc...lots of hi time guys were coming in towards the end of our last hiring wave. We've got a lotta good people around here in Memphis and we're all hoping and praying for a contract in the future. If you're looking for something send in an app here...got nothing to lose.

When did you apply? I got the same "tentative interview" e-mail, June 27th. I'm wondering, if they do end up interviewing, in what order they will interview people. Low-timer CFI me may have a hard time against the other guys w/ Part 121 experience.
