regional consolidation

Not trying to start a regional war here, just wondering all of your feelings on this matter. Do you think Delta will continue to try and axe regionals off to get their cuts or do you think regionals will start merging in 2009? I personally think that you might see some consolidation in the future.

Nothing to back this but I would nt be too shocked to see Delta have Mesaba/Compass/Comair/ remain as owned regionals with only Skywest as the only non owned carrier flying for Delta.

This may or may not happen since there are some long term contracts out there for Pinnacle and such, but only time will tell.

Here is what I think should happen. Merge all wholly owned carriers (Comair, Mesaba and Compass) together and have only one airline! Delta! Have everything run through ATL, dispatch, scheduling, etc. Things would run much more efficiently. Wouldn't be surprised to see Delta head in that direction...

Well, let's see here:
-Mesaba is owned by...Northwest
-Compass is owned by...Northwest

You're 1/3 on the wholly-owned predictions, so I'll stop there without getting into the other DCI feeders.

Mesa's going to buy us all.

I think he is assuming that the merger goes through genius!

There is little reason for DL to merge their regional feeders. Together you are strong, divided you are weak. It is easier to control the weak.

I prefer that you capitalize my name, thanks. It's a matter of respect.

I think CRJ has a good point...Delta has a very small presence in IAH, however, I see Delta mainline, ASA, Skywest, Comair, Freedom, Pinnalce, Shuttle American and Chautauqua (Ok, we can count those as one I guess). Isn't that ridiculous??

With the audience of this site I think it is only going to take one "my regional" comment before this thread goes into a lockdown. Therefore....

I just hope we have jobs.
