Anyways, I drive a Nissan Pathfinder. Doesn't make sense to sale it seeing that now is not a good time to sale a gas guzzler. So why sale at a loss just to spend more money getting an economical car? It's about a 2 mile drive to the station from where I live and a 45 minute train ride to the airport (non-rush hour it takes me 40 minutes to drive to the airport). Total cost round trip on the train is $3 ($1.50 one way) as compared to $13+ round trip for fuel in the SUV.

By doing the above I cut my fuel needs down from 5 tanks of gas per month, at around $80/tank, to only 1 tank per month (YES that's only 1 TANK PER MONTH:D). That’s a savings of around $308 per month (4 tanks at $80 = $320 - 4 train rides at $3 round trip = $308). THAT'S HUGE!!!!!

And now I still have my Pathfinder so we can still pull our boat or trailer. We've also changed out all of our light bulbs in our home for the energy efficient bulbs and raised out thermostat 2 degrees. We spent $184 on bulbs but our electric bill dropped an average of $50 per month so after 3.7 months they will have paid for themselves.

It’s truly amazing how much money the little things can save you. :)

Good idea, my truck costs around that much to fill up to but I've been filling up about once a month. Big savings. What kind of bulbs do you get? I absolutely will not raise my thermostat one degree. I will cut internet, direct tv, starve, anything but raise my thermostat. I live in Texas and my AC is my most important asset.

I'm pretty sure, they know that the fuel price is high, and if they wanted to do something about it, they would have done it already. It's not that they live where fuel is cheap, theyre dealing with the same problem. Every citizen can write a nice long letter asking for lower fuel price, and Im pretty certain that it wouldnt change much.

Maybe Im just too pessimistic, but ill give a woot for the recent decrease in oil price.

as long as there are no ManBearPig sightings in the middle east anytime soon, oil probably won't have a $20 spike tomorrow...

Why do you want oil to go down?

The only way we will get regulation back is for one of the legacy airlines to falter and/or fail.

The only way to get rid of the whipsaw and decline in pay and work rules is by regulation.

I want oil to shoot to $200/barrel and then congress will be forced to act. Any decline just returns us to what we've endured since 9/11.

Regulation isn't going to happen and shouldn't happen. Anybody who thinks the government can do a better job should take a look at AMTRAK.

You want things to be better, petition to create laws holding CEO's accountable to more than their stockholders. There is no reason that they should be rewarded with golden parachutes for their failed practices. Funny, the airline that is known for treating their employees well and bucking the industry's mentality is the one doing well right now.

I don't know about you, but I'll take a government guaranteed job over a furlough merry-go-round anyday. Anytime an airline makes a good profit someone is going to step in and screw it up. Without government intervention we're doomed to more of the same or worse treatment as pilots.

Also, Southwest started as a low paying carrier. The only reason they are in the top now is because everyone else took a hit post 9/11 and Southwest's wagering on fuel prices paid off. If fuel had gone down then you'd be saying how great United is.

Haha, that's my favorite part... I also like the full size station wagon with a whistle tip they cut to near the beginning.
