TSA continues it's Reign of Terror on flight crews.

Today in Houston TSA was waiting for pilots outside the ops elevator to ambush them when coming to work.

They were equipped with latex gloves to pat down the pilots for a "spot security check." They were also going through their bags.

It is disgusting to watch 5 TSA agents wait at the elevator door to pat down an unsuspecting pilot while another TSA "officer" digs through their bags.

Im sorry but these people get under my skin and stuff like this makes me crazy. Anyone else ever see this?

They need to do these spot checks. Yes I know they are a pain in the arse but hey if they don't do them sooner or later someone is going to get the idea that they can get anything through there. Lets be honest there are people who are still trying to do us harm and random inspections do serve as a deterrent. And if you think all of the pilots out there are innocent and would never try brining anything through that they shouldn’t you’re only fooling yourself, and no I am not referring to nail clippers.
On a really unpopular note I am not a big fan of CrewPass either, it’s another weak point that people with bad intentions will try to exploit.

The TSA is worthless.

Pilots are screened. But gate agents and rampers (the ones with unrestricted access to the baggage compartments) are not.

Seriously? Lets just say a pilot get his "contraband" taken, I wonder what other weapon he can use to inflict harm on others? Common bro are you actually saying that you do not trust 100% of your peers? I suppose then you can't be trusted either.

Sorry but the pilot is still going to get behind the controls of the aircraft so who cares what he's carrying.

So long as this is possible I'm afraid none of us are safe.

Who's patting down the TSA agents?

They need to do these spot checks on pilots? Give me a break.

As ToiletDuck said just above: "the pilot is still going to get behind the controls of the aircraft so who cares what he's carrying"

Ultimately, 9-11 was caused not so much by box cutters and faux bombs, but by someone manipulating the flight controls. Hmmmm... what do pilots do?

So, maybe they should conduct spot psych exams instead?

The people (though I do not really consider them to be human beings) who are looking to do us harm have moved past the airlines, despite what some may think.

The TSA thinks another 9-11 is going to happen?

All we would need is one...

I'm not going to say it, and it has nothing to do with some exploding nuke either.

Just think Israel and you'll know what I mean.

The TSA waiting to ambush pilots to search them?

How about we do that to the TSA? I mean if anyone is an "insider" who could do harm, who better than someone from the TSA.

Who is watching the TSA?

dude... you should really consider living in a cave, hundreds of miles away from civilization.

Yep. In the mind of a terrorist, it's just not worth that 1/1000 chance that they might get a random spot check coming off the elevator. Suicide-bomber terrorists are known to be particularly risk averse. That's why it's worth it to hassle pilots who are trying to go about their business.

I think maybe there's a better way.

weirdbiz 07-21-2008 09:30 PM

As for crewpass...
The issue isn't what pilots bring through security. That's pretty irrelevant when they're going to fly the plane. The issue is whether or not the people who walk through wearing a uniform are actually pilots. And the fact is, that's the SAME ISSUE THAT THE CURRENT SECURITY SYSTEM HAS! Why don't we focus on a better way to ensure that pilots are actually pilots, instead of taking their scissors?

Any pilot can access the cockpit and manipulate the controls/systems of aircraft to cause mass destruction. Thanks to background checks and the vetting process to become an airline pilot, this is unlikely. Seeing that every pilot is capable of such devastation, they should be inherently trusted.

If you consider CrewPass a weak point, then I'm assuming you're not an advocate of CASS and recommend that you commit to "jumpseat abstinence."

Crewpass is more secure, sophisticated, and centralized than ANY law enforcement officer database in the country. The verification process for LEOs doesn't hold a candle to CASS verification (this is coming from a former LEO).
