For all you Eagle guys...
I was sitting RAP2 today and got an MA. I was hoping someone might have some advice on how to take care of it. Here is what happened.
When crew scheduling called it went straight to voicemail 4 times. She left 3 messages for an airport standby that was supposed to start at 6:30pm. The voicemails never showed up until 7:15, four hours late. I was given an MA for the no show and they told me to take it up with the chief pilot. I have the phone history still which I can't delete one thing at a time. I can only delete the whole log. I was thinking I could take that in and show it to him to prove the calls never came through and that I didn't get the voicemails until it was too late. Any ideas? |
I would get whatever you can to prove that your phone really did malfuntion. This will probably stay on your record, but you might catch less flak for it this way... or who knows maybe theyll be nice.
Stuff like this happens. You can't have 3 cell phones on you as a back-up just incase one craps out. Mine turned off on me before on my reserve day and I didnt notice it till it was almost over.. luckily nobody called. But stuff like this does happen. Don't know how they look at it though. |
How are you going to show to him that the messages appeared after it was too late. The phone usually records the time the message was sent, not when your phone picks up the signals from the cell phone tower. Either way you're gonna have to reason with him. You mesages only appear when there is service in the area. There's been plenty of time when my phone didn't show any messages untill I actually called my inbox to find there were some. If you're in a poor coverage are I would double check your inbox when you're on reserve.

That happens with my phone sometimes....go to eaglelounge.com and ask some guys over there. You might get a better answer.
Was asleep the otherday and had a RAP at 1000, forgot to turn my ringer back on when i woke up at 9...didnt notice it till 1200...thankfully no one called. EDIT: BURflyer...my phone records when i recieved the message, not when the sender sent the message...hopefully AmericanEagleFO's works the same way. |
Get Verizon! Or who knows, maybe this happens to verizon, too.

Can you go online to your carriers website and see a list of calls? The calls shouldn't show up if they went directly to voice mail. print that out and show them you never received the calls.
|
Your RAP and your phone are your responsibility. As someone said here already if you know you have phone issues, DOUBLE CHECK your VOICE MAIL every so often. You can try to plead your case with the cheif pilot and he might be understanding with the evidence that you have NOW but come your probie ride it will definatley work against you.
GOOD LUCK. It could have happened to anyone though, sucks that it happened to you. I truly feel for ya. |
It's not going to work against him on his probie ride. Give me a break.
Just make sure and have every captain fill out a probie report after you fly with them. Those carry a lot of weight. Having 50 of those with good things to say will carry you farther than a MA will hurt you. Also, this is a business and mistakes happen. If I were in your shoes, I'd simply explain what happened, apologize, and ask what you can do to make it better. Carrying your hat in your hand and asking forgiveness is your best move. |
Actually most cell phones show the voice mail messages as the time they were picked up from the tower...I have AT&T and it ALWAYS shows the time I turn the phone on and it gets the messages. My messages don't get time stamped at the time they are left.
I'd just go in and talk to the chief pilot face to face. Explain to him what happened. Say you're very sorry, you feel like a complete idiot, you can't believe it happened, it'll never happen again...and you don't want an MA on your record and you'll do whatever you can to get it removed. I can't speak for your chief pilot, but some of the guys I've met that are CPs at Eagle would remove it or work with you to get it removed. MAs are not set in stone...believe me. |

Do your best to get as much good said about you on paper; that could over-ride one MA when it comes time. |
