Default Charged for Riding as OMC on United....

Hey all you United Express pilots,

Last month I was commuting home on United. There were a few seats in first and none in economy. The agent issued me a first class boarding pass and said she put me on as an OMC, but I ended up getting charged for it anyway. Is there a way to defend this? Of course I don't have my OMC card, because the gate takes one half and the captain takes the other!

I guess you weren't processed as an OMC.

It would appear that's the case.

I've had this exact problem and the only way you can protect against it is to NOT accept the 1st class seat assignment. Even if they assign you a seat in Economy or Plus they will payroll deducted the fee. I’ve been told it’s because they have to list you before they can assign you the seat and when you list you get charged. You must retain your OMC pass only (W/no seat assignment), I know its BS, but UAL’s sneaky like that.

Ok thanks. I guess I know for the future. It's really frustrating that I have the propensity to get charged as a jumpseater by virtue of the nonrev agreement.

i've had the exact thing happen and the only way i could get the money back was to fax the omc card, which i did in fact have. never give the whole thing away.

At my airline if your issued a jumpseat and there is an empty seat in the back they will charge you, even if you did in fact sit in the jumpseat.

Ditto at NW/Airlink - if you OMC and get a seat in business class they will deduct it out of your paycheck.
