Actually one guy I know go the hell out of eagle after the first year because he couldn't take the abuse from the company anymore. He told me to avoid eagle because they don't care about the QOL of their pilots.

I would just go with any regional that has high upgrade times like MESA, yea you might not have as good of schedules as other regionals, although I talked to a F/A based in Phoenix for MESA and they have some nice schedules like SAN-Cabos-SAN-PHX, but atleast you will be a captain having PIC while at the other better regional you would still be a F/O where your time is worth nothing.

It's interesting you say that; here at AWAC there have been FO's hired at CAL with ZERO PIC time in turbines (only PIC time is from CFI'ing in pistons).

FYI.

I have a lot of friends who fly for Horizon and they all love working there. That's why the upgrade time is high, a lot of lifers there.

Here are the mins:
  • 1,500 hours fixed-wing total flight time
  • 1,000 hours fixed-wing PIC time, or 500 hours PIC time and 500 hours SIC time in a turbojet
  • 1,000 hours fixed-wing turbine time
  • 1,000 hours fixed-wing multi-engine time (civilian or military) or 1,000 hours single-engine military fighter jet time
  • A current ATP written exam
  • A current first class FAA medical
  • A current passport
  • A Bachelor's degree is highly desired

Of course, mins are just mins. However CAL doesn't specifiy TPIC at all. I do not know if they were interns. I'd guess most of the people hired have internal recs...

With very few exceptions will need to know someone to get hired at ANY major airline. Start networking immediately, your student or FO might beat you to the majors, then you'll be glad you were nice to him or her (especially her).

AWA & CAL have recently hired folks with less than 1000 TPIC. CAL seems to prefer that you upgrade to CA, then they will scoop you up. The reason for this is historical...back in the hiring boom in the nineties, the lower-tier majors were losing THEIR pilots to DAL, AA, UAL, FEDEX, UPS. They figured out that if they hire folks who are short of TPIC, then they get to keep them for a long time, because they can't get TPIC until they upgrade (which takes a long time at any major).

Default No PIC time, No problem

Mins are just mins. In my new hire class there were 3 people who had zero turbine PIC time. They all had about 3000 to 4000 total time, but, that's the way it is. I say good for them, but it's a little daunting when you try to get a foot in the door at a major and there's 24 year olds with no PIC time beside ya in class.

P.S. They had family that retired from CAL.

P.P.S We had a 23 year old at my former company make it on at CAL last year, he had no PIC turbine and even failed upgrade twice!
