Shout out to Xjet

Today ExpressJet branded ceased operations. I think it had a lot to do with high oil prices. I rode on them many times as a non-rev, and twice on a paid ticket. I can say, they offered a superior product, and it's sad to see them not make it.

The total experience they offered the consumer was far in excess of what one would expect at Southwest. As an MVP Gold at Alaska, I was enslaved to the FF program (not complaining) but I think Xjets product was superior in the markets they served.

All that said. Xjeters are on the street. What could have been just didn't turn out to be.

To all the Xjet dudes. I wish you well. Thanks for the jumpseats. Thanks for the remarkably professional operation, all things considered. I hope everyone seeking it can find a suitable home for the future.

Thanks for the kind words. It was weird to see the gates completely empty and the blank arrival/departure displays in the terminal today in ONT.

I'll second what de727ups has to say about XJet. I have also ridden with them a few times and went down to San Diego on a flight last Friday. I missed their service on Monday returning to Fresno. You can read earlier posts about what I thought about the quality of the airplanes, crews and customer service reps. I wish the best for all involved.

Thanks guys! While I'm just a COEX lackey I still take pride in what our company has done. :)

Sticky status at the APC regional fourms. Whooo hooo. You guys deserve it.

resetjet 09-02-2008 09:25 PM

A sad day......

I wish you guys all the best, hopefully there will be a silver lining

FSUpilot 09-02-2008 09:28 PM

Is it all of Xjet, including all the continental stuff or just the branded flying?

I thought it was just the branded stuff. If I am wrong, good luck to all.

It's the Branded (aquafresh) and Delcon planes that ceased flying. We still have the charter planes, and 205 planes in CAL colors that will continue to be the revenue stream for ExpressJet.

For now.

MatchPoint 09-02-2008 10:13 PM

XJT will be sorely missed, you all still have some rough waters ahead and I wish you the best.

andy171773 09-02-2008 11:42 PM

Ok i'm confused....what shut down?

Expressjet?...their branded side..isn't this old news

(And yes, it sucks a lot and wish it weren't the case..but this forum is worded like a whole airline is gone...i just want to make sure this isn't the case)

Branded and Delta Connection ceased operation yesterday...its old news that just went into effect.

Expressjet d.b.a. Continental Express lives on, along with Expressjet Charter.

andy171773 09-03-2008 12:31 AM

Ok Phew, I thought for a minute that this was something new and Xjet as a whole was done.

Sorry to all you f'd Xjetters out there, i guess the only solace is knowing that you're not the only ones, and that we all fall together...and hopefully we all help to pick each other back up when the good times get goin again.

Squawk_5543 09-03-2008 05:16 AM

Are all the X-Jetters on one list over there? How many did they have to let go for all this lost flying? Anyone know what hire date it went back to?

LIOG41 09-03-2008 05:31 AM

One seniority list system-wide, furloughs went back to April 2007.

Airsupport 09-03-2008 05:41 AM

Rode on xjet to austin once. very nice. good luck to everyone and hopefully people who have been furloughed can get back to work soon.

el jefe 09-03-2008 05:51 AM

Shared a van to the airport with two Xjet crews just yesterday morning. They all seemed in high spirits, never once mentioned that they were going to be out of a job today.

LIOG41 09-03-2008 06:03 AM

because it doesn't happen until October 1st.

ebuhoner 09-03-2008 06:14 AM

I had like a month without visiting the forums, and you really scared me lol I thought it was the whole airline. Yeah well it really sucks but lets hope everything is gonna be better in the future. Oil price today 107$ and falling :)

cfitstew 09-03-2008 06:45 AM

Thanks for the well wishes. I was SAT based for 7 months and can honestly say the Branded flying was the best flying I've ever done. Getting furloughed stinks, but it was a fun 11 months with the company!

CL65driver 09-03-2008 08:52 AM

Thank you for the kind words, de727ups. Branded and Delcon will be missed greatly. It's a crying shame that we're shutting this down, while the price of oil continues to drop. Unfortunately, that's no consolation to the 350 we're putting out on the street. Good luck to those guys- hopefully something better than this job will come their way. :(

Hunt599 09-03-2008 09:34 AM

Im a former XJT-er...... April 2000 hire....I left this past Feb. and regret it daily. I have never worked with such a great group of people in my life.....including management!

I wish you guys the best!

A total of 314 active pilots are being furloughed on October 1.

Just curious if you don't mind saying, where did you leave to go to?

Okay... so I was in the ball park. Is ALPA pursuing any new opportunities for these guys besides Compass and that gig in China?

I_Love_Lamp 09-03-2008 12:20 PM

Nope, nothing. I asked them to look into getting reduced mins at fractionals and they said they'd look into it, but who knows.

flyingkangaroo 09-03-2008 01:11 PM

When are you all voting on pay cuts? how much are they asking from you?

Didn't mean to come down on you just letting people know the actual number. How you doing? Its been a while since our MRY overnight. Did you make the cut?

As for what ALPA is doing, other than Flybe, Compass, and Grand China Express, they are sponsoring Job Fairs. Contact the XJTALPA Furlough Liaison for more details.

They are asking for about 6%. No vote set yet. Still in negotiations.

It's all good. I made the cut just fine- G79XX, but a whole slew of my friends were furloughed. Got IAH with about 100 below me. Fortunately I was also awarded a 40 hour line to help reduce the stress of commuting from SFO. It's sad that we'll never get to see that MRY overnight again! :(

Oh well, hopefully those 314 will all be back at work soon.

Riverside 09-03-2008 03:49 PM

No offense, but I think some people at Horizon air in Spokane are a little bit happy. Good luck, enjoyed non-revving on you guys. Only thing I didn't like is that I couldn't stand straight up in the airplanes.

dude. you're on a regional airline forum. remember?

Riverside 09-03-2008 06:49 PM

Q-400, Crj-700, and the jumbo shrimp ERJ's. So some of the airplanes I can straight up in.

I'm right there with you, IAH FO. I'll see you there or at some south Texas overnight.

Are you one of those happy people?

Funny, you mention not being able to stand straight up in the airplanes. Not ONCE in the 18 months did I ever hear one of our customers make that complaint. And they weren't a guest getting a free ride!

CRJammin 09-03-2008 10:03 PM

ExpressJet branded ops-- sad to see you go. I jumpseated SAN-OMA a few months back in the cockpit and was treated great by the pilots, F/A, and ground support.

Booker 09-04-2008 05:08 AM

I'd like to add my thanks for everyone's kind words, although I only can accept credit by association. I never had the privilege of flying Branded (and I'm kicking myself now for not doing it), but it was a real treat to go to "work" and hear nothing but positive comments about it from both management and crews, as well as the the stories about the satisfied customers. Thanks again, everyone!

planediveguy 09-04-2008 04:29 PM

Sorry to see it go guys. Have many friends from the old "pilot mill" that are flying for XJet.

You are all good guys and I hope you will get great jobs soon. Pilot shortage is coming again an in a few years we will need to be stronger than ever to prevent Management and Congress from pulling our rights away from us.

mach946 09-04-2008 07:13 PM

I agree! Good luck to the men and women of Xjet! IM not the type that likes to say prayers, but you guys will be in my thoughts and prayers and I hope and wish you all secure a better outcome in the not too distant future.
The job you guys was oustanding, and that cannot go unanswered. The law of reciprocity does kick in for folks of your caliber.

Sad because now these guys will be out of a job with the 6 figure Delta Academy debt.

U-I pilot 09-06-2008 10:01 AM

After flying/instructing at XJT for almost 2 years, it is sad to see those lines of business dry up...... Though I am no longer at XJT, I wish everyone my best. Some of you I may have trained or met in recurrents so I know lots of those affected, but keep flying and your eyes open for new opportunities.....
