that explains why all my landings in ORF suck...

ever land in psp, the centerline stripes are like 4" thick:eek:

To answer the original question, we've had quite a few very qualified military guys come back and hold the left seat (as their seniority dictates). So it's possible that it was his first landing from the left, and it was probably a good one.

I know it! My first landing in there I was on the roll-out and told the Captain "crap, we blew the nosegear!!" Those stripes are overkill

I beg to differ. I've done several into both. While ORF has a horrible touchdown zone it's Boston's that 15/33 cross where it has the potential to actually throw you into orbit! I think it's just the heat mixed with the Speedbird's 747s or the multiple 738/9s taxining on it sinking into the ground. Had to reject there once and when slamming on the breaks the darn think kept bouncing into the air!

EWR 4L is the worst I have experienced. From the departure point to the end of the displaced threshold it's up and down and up and down and up and down and then finally it smoothes out.

My first takeoff in a jet was on that runway (4L in EWR) and I'll never forget that bouncing and how I thought "Is this how all takeoffs are going to be??"

we had a couple of people go through upgrade training after coming back from military leave. they had their uoe the end of last month. The only reason i know that is because the check airmen i was flying with earned me an FBO out of nowhere... pleasant surprise.
