Smurf Police

So went through security this weekend in Chicago. Saw the new TSA uniforms. The smurf police are already power tripping. They wouldn't let me through security cause I had more than 3 ounces of liquid on my bag. Jerks!

powrful1 09-15-2008 08:59 PM

did you tell them to frig off and ask for a super?

Cycle Pilot 09-15-2008 09:02 PM

Were you in uniform?

doug_or 09-15-2008 09:17 PM

How on earth did they quantify the amount of liquid on your bag?

And was it really liquid? or more of a gel?

there is no such thing as terrorism. its a heightened security for a false threat.

There are relatives of around 3000 people who died on 9/11 who'd disagree. You're out of line. We don't need this crap on here.

resetjet 09-15-2008 09:45 PM

What he said ^^^^^^^^^

avi8tor, did they have badges and guns to go with their cool new uniforms?

USMC3197 09-15-2008 09:57 PM

Anyone know where on TSA's website can you find the regs for CREW members? Figured I will print out the part about CREW members and leave it in my rollerboard.

Yeah, bro... Totally. And 9/11 was masterminded by the U.S. Government using top secret laser guided bombs shaped like airplanes.

The truth is out there! :p

TurboFan 09-15-2008 10:14 PM

Just call them officer like I've been doing. Makes me laugh.

"No officer, I didn't realize I had that toothpaste in there. I'm sorry."

Nothing like getting your AA degree with a 2.0 GPA to make you believe in the 9/11 "Truth" movement :D

Speedbird172 09-16-2008 02:48 AM

Gotta love the name tags with the title "officer", as if the badge wasn't enough to give these complete idiots big heads.

We're not allowed to know the rules. They're on magical paper that they can pull out and look at themselves when they need to, then make them disappear again.

Seriously, I've asked this question before as well, and if these rules do exist, can someone tell us where to find them?

ExperimentalAB 09-16-2008 03:40 AM

Okay...so before I have to go and ask them myself (which I will!), I heard that the TSA agents cannot even take the badge home - that they have to sign it in and out at every shift. Any thruth to this? Reminds me of that incident at the Cubs game - did the drunken agent actually whip out a badge?

Makes sense to me, I could imagine them driving home from work, driving a little fast and getting them pulled over by a cop, and then whipping out their "badge" and showing it to the cop trying to get outta the ticket....

CRJDriver 09-16-2008 05:38 AM

I saw a TSA guy shopping at Wal-Mart wearing his new, blue uniform. I'm not kidding....

You have obviously been dropped on your head a few too many times. Take a piece of advice, you have the right to have extreme views, but in in the unlikely event you actually make it to this industry you better watch what you say.

dn_wisconsin 09-16-2008 06:01 AM

you know what i used to do that really got them upset. the night before a trip i'd make soup to take along. well i froze it in an average container (alot bigger than 3oz) and would take it with me. every time i went through security they tried to take it from me and i made it a point that is wasn't a liquid or a gel. after a few times talking with the supervisor he kindly asked me to stop, so now i make sure i'm in uniform everytime i go through with it. ;)

Well, i guess that's a little worse than a particular FFDO who did the same thing w/ a cop trying to get out of a ticket. Least he did have a gun with him.

ehaeckercfi 09-16-2008 10:15 AM

I saw a Delta pilot shopping in Trader Joe's once. He was in full uniform, hat and all!

Another time, I saw a Mesaba pilot in a FedEx Kinko's in full uniform, with the hat AND blazer. He was also wearing his aviator sunglasses and had a huge, awesome mustache.

Bunch of dorks!

U-I pilot 09-16-2008 10:32 AM

people never have to drop off a package to be shipped or pick up a few essentials before or after a trip.....

*SHOCK* Pilots live normal lives!

IFly17 09-16-2008 10:36 AM

A pilot being able to afford something at Trader Joe's? Shocker.

steveo1kinevo 09-16-2008 10:42 AM

I saw two TSA walking through the airport today with there new uniforms and wondered who they where! haha Good thing for this thread...it just answered my question.

s10an 09-16-2008 10:47 AM

When I walked through security today thy had the nerve to ask me to stack the bins... I just ignored them at walked away... Bunch of idiots.

Ok, that's fine. but wearing your hat inside FedEx Kinko's?? Come on!!

I have had to run into stores going to/from work before, but I don't go in there with my hat, tie, ID and blazer on!

I guess it is ok to make fun of the TSA "smurf" that wears his uniform in stores, but as soon as I make fun of a pilot for it, it is wrong.

I'm confused about when you are suppose to wear the hat and not wear the hat. If you wear in INSIDE the airport why would you not wear it INSIDE the Kinkos? Do you have the same rules about wearing a hat (or cover in my current language)? Seems simple to me - presently you do NOT wear a cover indoors. Is each airline different?

This thread is turning childish...you guy can get on me all you want...but really...Most of the TSA guys don't even care what color the uniform is...they are just doing their jobs and going home to their families...Like I said Most...just because there are a few people that may not know what is going on or they may be new hires...doesn't mean you can classify them all the same...cmon guys

I think its worse to wear a partial uniform than the full with hat. Call it what you want, but its all about professional image. Frankly, partial uniforms look silly and thats why airlines have the standards that they do. I don't care what TSA guys do, but we as pilots should look professional.

I know that most regional airlines are quite relaxed and some don't require hats. A lot of guys don't like hats. But those airlines that do require them, or pilots that choose to wear them should not be mocked for upholding the professional image of the profession.

Wear your hat everywhere if it makes you feel good. Just be prepared to be made fun of...

I don't understand how it is okay to make fun of the TSA for wearing their uniforms in public places outside work, but not pilots, no way. We are soooo much better, and have to hold up a professional image yadda yadda yadda...

That seems to be the problem then - no standardization.
Sorry - coming from the military side I expect that if you are wearing a uniform then it would be pretty straight forward when you should and should not wear your hat.

I don't really think that there is a problem. I wouldn't expect a McDonald's worker to wear his or her McDonald's hat/visor thing and name tag into Wal-Mart if they stop there on his or her way home from work. I don't think that airline pilots should be any different.

I know it is 100% different in the military, but this isn't the military.

I'm not trying to start a pi$$ing contest, just pointing out the irony that it seems to be okay to make fun of the TSA, but not okay to make fun of ourselves as airline pilots.

Poprocket 09-16-2008 01:16 PM

 Have you ever actually been through security?!?!?! All of these d-bags are the same.

CubCAPTAIN 09-16-2008 02:17 PM

I feel bad for JetBlue pilots and real cops. Now from more than 50ft away, they all look like TSA agents. What a bunch of posers...
