The Hawaiian people will fly Mokulele especially if they are looking to hire 400 former Aloha guys. The people there have a lot a pride and they know what Go! did to Aloha. The islands are small and everyone almost knows each other there. A lot of friends, family members, etc were effected by the shutdown of Aloha. So there will be an overnight loyalty to Mokulele if they hire so many locals. My guess is if they only do interisland flying then perhaps even Hawaiian may code share with them and just do mainland Hawaii flights. (though that is just a guess) Sad part is that I heard that many if not most of the Go! pilots are not even locals. I think Karma has a lot to do with this, if Mesa just did what RAH did or would have just bought Hawaiian/Aloha they would have been in good shape and dominated HI. I say all this is because I lived there and my family lives there.

I do not know the details of the contract between RAH and Mokulele, but as I understand it, RAH pilots will fly RAH planes. The hiring of the 400 former Aloha guys will be other positions, such as, ticket/gate agents and rampers. That would be my guess.

I definately agree! Being born and raised in Hawaii, and (RAH furlough'd) I can tell you there will be over night loyalty to Mokulele. Hawaii is VERY family oriented and, Aloha (Airlines) had a long history in the islands. Folks know what role Go/Mesa played in it's shut down. Go's days are numbered. Hope to bid to go back home someday. Left in 82 for a career in the USAF. It would be a joy to fly in the islands where I grew up. Funny how life works... |
From what I read in the local papers in HI, Mokulele does plan to hire more pilots if they do expand their fleet. So I think right now all eyes are on RAH and see how well they do for Mokulele. As far as regional flying for Hawaiian from Mokulele, it was more of a sarcastic wish that I was typing out loud. haha ahhhh going to HI today for a few days... wondering if RAH has their planes out there already.
