ASA Resv. Bucket
#1
I know how the bucket is put together (days avail, seniority, credit )
But with people having diff resv hours, what is the best way to determine wether or not your going to get called in? I have yet to trust this bucket enough to go out and play while on resv.

It's rather wishy washy - I tried to take my kid to the library yesterday while in the 4-day bucket with two ahead of me. They called me in for Ready Reserve as well as the two ahead of me. I've gotten 'caught' out in town four or five times now but have always made it (I live close to Athens, a 1hr15min commute).
Not sure how the holidays will work but if you bid reserve for Jan/Feb and don't select call me first, you'll rarely get called and it will be much more predictable.

Disclaimer: There isn't a sure way to know if you're going to be called.
That said, there are a few things you can look at. The first thing to look at is Call Me First. If you are not call me first, and there are people above you who are, check their eTrip to see if they have gotten any assignments. If not, you aren't going to be called unless they are. Also, look at the time and think logically. If you, or anyone, is called, the earliest you can leave the ground is 3 hours from that time (2 hours to drive in, 1 hour at the airport before departure). So if it's close to the end of your time block, probably not going to get called. Also, if there are other people coming onto reserve, that lessens your chances of getting called because they have more duty available. Finally, look at the weather. If it's a bright, beautiful sunny day, you can bet there's a lesser chance of flying than if it's lousy (like this past Friday...)
Of course, all of those are just strategies, and sometime scheduling surprises you. My advice is to always be ready, and if you are really paranoid about it, just take your things with you wherever you go. Then all you have to do is hop into a phone booth Superman-style and you'll be good to go!!

CS says they follow the bucket system but I have yet to see them consistently follow it.
I think they version of using the bucket system is throwing a dart against board with everybody's name on it for the day.
Worst one for me was being on the top of Kennesaw Mtn. and having them short call me and then first try to give me less than 2 hours which I called them out on, and then switched it to two hours. I just barely made that one in time.
