Waste of time. Don't do it. PLUS you DON'T get paid!!!!!
I know many who have done that and got 'foot-in-the-door'. Yes, you don't get paid, but the job guarantee itself is worth it and besides you learn a lot. I know a guy who has been at Delta for less than a year now and is on a 767 International route with less than 500 PIC turbine time at regional airline. Why? Because he had the foresight to do an 'unpaid' internship. I say do one with the regional and one with the major. Good Luck with the crash pad! |
Born and raised in Salt Lake I would recommend the Sky Harbor apartments located on North Temple just west of Redwood Road. You are extremely close to the airport (less than a 5 min drive) but it is relatively free of aircraft noise as it is not under and dep/arr corridors. I lived there for a year about 4 years ago and thought it was a nice place. Best part is that you can get your apartment furnished for like $10/mo., you can rent month to month for little extra cost and there are tons of pilots and crew living there leading to some fun impromptu hot tub parties.
Feel free to PM me for more information, I know a lot about the area. |
Funny how it works, i have a place to live in SLC but no job. :D I cant seem to ever luck out and line the two up. Anyone know of any good jobs in SLC?????

They don't lower the mins. And you will not learn ANYTHING. BTW i'm sure your friend at Delta did an internship with Delta. That i would recommend. |
I did the SkyWest internship this last summer up in SLC...loved every second of it! Can't wait until I get the hours up to start working there. Max Glide is right on internships. No, you don't get paid (but very very few internships do). And no, the mins. are not lowered. But the experience you get behind the scenes and the contacts you make basically get you a job when you do get the time.
And I did live in a crashpad. Loved every second of that too! If any of the pilots from there are on the board.....WHAT'S UP?!?! MISS YOU GUYS!!! |

I did an internship at SkyWest 4 years ago. At the end of it I got hired with much less time than everyone else in my class. Of course this is before everyone was getting hired at 1000 hours. Airlines haven't been hiring in months and there are tons of furloughed pilots on the street. When hiring does resume there won't be too many 1000 hour CFI's getting interviews. Doing the internship will be a foot in the door at the right time.

If you can PM me go ahead, i am from SLC and used to intern at OO too, if you have your CFI i know some good places you could go that pay very well.
What department are you an intern in? |
stmltt,
I run the SLC Crashpad. We would be more than happy to have you at our crashpad. Please visit our website at www.slccrashpad.com. If you would like more information about our crashpad please contact me. My contact information is listed on the following page: www.slccrashpad.com/Contact.html. |
I think almost all interns have been hired. As a mater of fact, one of the current Chief Pilots in SLC was a former intern.
