Republic E170's made it to HNL

Found a photo of a Republic E170 in HNL with the new Mokuele paint scheme. The paint scheme reminds me of Frontier in design. It would have been a interesting journey to HNL as they went IND-GTF-ANC-ADK-MDY-HNL. Long way around.

The photo isn't showing up here is the link. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ew7MBihR4E...rw-12nov08.jpg

From california to hawaii was just on the edge of the 170's range. Some how they came up with that route. Im sure it was an interesting expirence.

they look very nice

somertime32 11-13-2008 08:34 AM

Midway......that would have been a cool place to make a stop

aerospacepilot 11-13-2008 08:35 AM

When Mesa ferried their CRJ's over to start GO!, they outfitted them with additional fuel tanks inside the aircraft cabin. They flew non-stop from SFO-HNL.

Well, I guess Mesa's version of non-stop. SFO-SFO-SFO-SFO-HNL. They took off and returned to SFO like 3 times because of maintenance problems. But they eventually made it.

AirTrucker 11-13-2008 08:35 AM

Nice looking 170! "The begining of the end for Go Airlines. Karma is a biatch JO" flycrj200 it could not of been said any better then that! lol

So is republic displacing junior pilots to go to HNL? If so are they paying for your housing?

Killer51883 11-13-2008 08:48 AM

as far as i know it was all voluntary

Nope, it was all voluntary.

I guess I've been out of the loop...what is Republic doing with E-170s in Hawaii? What a great plane! That would have been a fun flight. You guys flying that thing over there are going to have a blast!

So no incentives at all? HNL is the most expensive place to live out of all your bases. How are the FO's affording this. I live with my in-laws and i still cant afford to get by on what i make as an FO... Tell me how you guys are doing it?

by stupidity. a bunch of idiots that jumped on the thing as soon as the bid opened up, thereby giving the company no reason to negotiate, or give up anything to get them out there.

Probably never been to HI before... it's nice but it's going to get old real fast with no cash.

8Lpearlchannel 11-13-2008 11:08 AM

I'm sure every airline has their share of pilots from Hawaii who long to return home... myself included, although I work for another airline. Just yesterday I met another FO from the islands working at my company. We both try to make a trip home whenever we have enough days off.

I would just move in with Higgins and tool around in the Ferrari on my off days.

I would give one nut to have flown into Midway though!

Did the company offer everyone the oppertunity to do those ferry flights? Or was it some sort of reward? I know we just "rewarded" some pilots by letting them pick up the new -900s and deliver them back to SLC...

Chief Pilot and Program Manager (i.e. two management pilots) did it.

USMC3197 11-13-2008 07:01 PM

It was outsourced. They hired a few pilots that had a background in ferry flights. Few ppl from RP went along also. Friend there told me about it a few weeks ago, I guess they told them in recurrent.

Yeah... Because Republic is so much better for the industry than MESA. Who cares that they will fly for 1/3 rd the pay...(Hint: Midwest)

Nope...try again. Rick and Ken did it.

I agree. The polish is wearing off fast at mesa "cough" excuse me Republic.

G-Dog 11-14-2008 06:17 AM

Come on now, there is no way you can put RAH in the same class as Mesa. You obviously have no clue on the industry and how it works.

RAH doesnt house an Alter Ego Carrier......Granted I dont agree with RAH's payscale or work rules...but they had no say in this whole midwest deal....its not like they were given a vote.....Every RAH guy I have talked to about that whole deal was upset with it...I can promise you that if the Midwest flying was voted on?? It wouldnt have passed.

MESA however is a cancer to the Industry. Its Airlines like that who dont give Airlines like mine a leg to stand on when it comes time for contract negotiations

HercDriver130 11-14-2008 07:20 AM

Morgenstern and Ken in an aircraft together ..good god...what was BB thinking.....

But there has always been a Mesa and there will always be some sort of Mesa, that's just the way it is. Ever heard of Century Airlines?

mking84 11-14-2008 08:22 AM

Are there any pics of them in the Midwest colors? That starts soon right?

Comair submitted CHQ's pilot contract (and others) as evidence in bankruptcy court to show that Comair's pilot costs and workrules were not competitive.

The judge agreed and threw out the Comair pilot contract.

To be honest none of us, RAH or Mesa have anything to do with the work we are handed. Its given to us in a crap sandwich and hopefully there is enough mayo to get it down.

Will our contract hurt Air Whiskey, no Air Whiskey will hurt air whiskey. Taxiing on 3 engines , Captains having sick outs because the schedule blows and your terrific contract doesn't protect it for you and.... not upsizing your fleet is what will hurt AirWhiskey. You guys think you have it by the stones with your pay rate and your deadhead pay. All I can say is have fun on that junior assignment and that hot reserve. I wouldn't know what that feels like. I am not bashing Air whiskey but that earlier comment was made as flame bait.

I make 40k as a second year fo bidding min sked. I haven't worked a weekend in months and never worked a holiday I didn't bid. And before you start, 40k sucks but that's what it is. Again, I had nothing to do with that. We are in the midst of contract negotiations and hopefully we can get that rate up. The previous blended FO pay was based on the Saab340's and the Erj 145 which is what we had on the flight line at the time. If I recall your last contract would of been based on the 5 apu engine BAE 146 and 50 seat crj's.

What we really need is one union and one contract to take work rules and pilot compensation out of the picture. How do we make that work? I have no idea but we must stop pitting against each other.

Couple weak points here. Schedules are not great cause they want PBS on the property and its just not going to happen. Junior man...happened once to me i think...ready reserve are the two most junior guys in base. Pay rate, 100 percent DH, 100 percent cancellation pay, trip and duty rig...but i would give it all up to fly 36 more people around and take a pay cut.

JetPipeOverht 11-14-2008 08:09 PM

Congrats, yall are flying a bigger a/c and consistantly remind us of that, yet you're airline is runnin 7 + codeshares and still has people on the street...some 'Regional of the Year' airline right there

STILL GROUNDED 11-14-2008 09:27 PM

You missed my point because you're to ready to beat someone up. I've got a few friends at whisky and not one of them has anything positive to say about the QOL. But hey he gets paid more.

And the fact that we fly a bigger airplane gets tossed in our face a lot more then we toss it in yours. We could care less. Furthermore just like everything else we don't have a say in these things. The contract we are currently working under was negotiated with the possibility of aircraft this size. We did not even have an option for one when the deal was sealed. We are in the middle of negotiations but frankly no one here is going to fall on our sword because some other pilot group thinks we are sell outs. We'll agree on terms that we find fair and sensible. It won't do us any good to have the BEST pay in the industry. It will only be a matter of weeks for one of the many companies pilot groups that whine about us to take a knee with the hope of getting more flying and upgrading quicker. Ask everyone that was on top at some point how things are going today. And then crap in my hat because I did it to them? Grow up!

I'll say it again for the speed readers. We need to fix our work force and take pilot wage and work rules off the table. The only way to do that is too come together as a professional work force. When one company can pit another against another then compititon and human nature will take over. You are going to protect you and your family. I wish I was wrong.

To the other caller: I don't exactly think having 125 out of 2400 on the street as a big recession here at RAH. We had given up our 135 Delta flying out of Cincy and are pealing off the crj's per the plan. Until we take over the world, "stay tuned for that" we are over staffed. Airline's over staffed furlough, other industrys just fire you. Of course we don't want it but...wait what exactly was your point again?
