I have to ask has anyone else been getting nosewheel shimmies that have been worse then normal for the dash since we started single engine taxing. I've heard from some ALG mechanics it's the tires but this is second time this fall we've had a nosewheel failure in a 100 at the end of september.

I haven't heard anything about another nosewheel failure. Where'd that happen? I assume they were able to alternate extend? I have noticed nosewheel shimmies, and the FIL about locked wheel turns had a crazy picture of a bad nosewheel bearing. Who knows. Could have been a bad PSEU too. I've heard one possible problem might have been the nosewheel centering mechanism didn't center the nosewheel, but that's entirely a rumor, so take it for what it's wroth. It certainly does sound like a possible cause, but I wouldn't go farther than that.

I did a ferry from PHL with the gear down a few months ago, sounds like the same thing.

The CA I was flying with tonight was in the Mx hangar with the airplane. He told me that when they brought the gear up after takeoff in ABE the nosewheel wasn't centered properly and jammed inside the well. Apparently the only damage was to the nose gear doors and the airplane was to be ferried out to MDT tonight for repair. Good on the crew for bringing her in without any injuries.

props to the piedmont guys. great job! glad nobody was hurt.

The articles on this event are ridiculous. First of all, they keep saying "jet", which we obviously aren't, and my favorite headline so far is on the comcast home page, "Jet Crash Lands at Philly Airport." Who comes up with these headlines? And I agree, single engine taxiing may be going away... Anyways, good job guys (and girl)!
