Captains, not FO's, actually need the RRTO, so they just want to make sure that you have one when you upgrade in a few years.
They told me (My School) that if I did not have it with me at the interview i was going to be dismissed from the interview.

When should someone get their RRTO? When they get their commecial cert or...?

Radiotelephony

Hi all, sorry to disrupt the conversation. I was wondering is this RR that you guys are talking about referring to Radiotelephony? Becos I'm working on converting my licenses and they require me to have a RT with my school.
So if it is, since I can exercise Radiotelephony privileges with my FAA license, why do I still have to apply for this RT? Appreciate yr ans n comments.

It's an international agreement that because airplanes have a radio station on board, you have to have a license to operate and transmit on the radio. It means nothing in the USA, but to fly internationally you need one.

To add to fiveninezero, the radio license is an ITU requirement. ITU is to the FCC as ICAO is to the FAA.

I don't think it's possible to disrupt a nine year old conversation.
