Radio Telephone License
Has anyone recently applied for a Radio Telephone License? I need to get the license for an upcoming job and I thought that the cost was $50.00. However, when I applied for it online on FCC's website, they tried to charge me $105.00. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

You musta found the wrong one. Dont worry that happens an old student of mine once was telling me how he had to spend 200 dollars for his. oops. Its only 50 or so. WHen you long in with your FRN go to apply for new license and on the select service scroll down you are looking for Restricted Operator (RR). That should so it.

Yea i just received one and I only paid around 50. Go back and check on the website or you could even try to call the FCC with the number on their website. I heard they are pretty nice about it but the FAA has no patience on the phone about it.

First, register here:
https://wtbwww05.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/Uls...ager/login.jsp Then, login here: https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsEntry/licManager/login.jsp Then, select Restricted Operator from the drop down menu, and follow instructions. It's really a bullsh!t item. The government makes money on you for a stupid piece of paper that's poorly printed with a cheap laser printer. The good thing is, you can go back and update/change one field and they'll mail you a new license. So if you ever lose your license, just go back, log in, update your e-mail address and they'll mail you a new one free. I'm trying to do as many of these bullsh!t updates as I can. I figure after I do this 50 times, both the government and I will break even from the expenditures on both sides. :) |

if you are getting the wrong fee it is because you are probably selecting "commercial operator" or "aircraft operator" or something like that. Like the other posts said, select "Restricted Operator". I just did it last week and the proper one turned up in the mail today.

The RTOP is a right of passage to get to the airlines... Its a mysterious piece of paper that really has not purpose that is a pain in the arse to get... I know it is required but the airlines figure if you arent smart enough to wade though the confusing website and goverment BS you dont deserve to get hired.

Ok, I had to register to say thanks so much to all of you who have responded to this thread. My friend had told me I needed to do this before I started trying for interviews and when I told him the thing was gonna cost >$100 he couldn't figure out why. But now I know!
So if this world was fair, you all should get a portion of the money I saved!! Maybe once I get a job I'll be able to do that for you guys! Best wishes and blue skies! |
SInce this is a goverment thing.... How long does it take for you to receive it?
