I was too actually. Looks like I'll be getting some more practice with this A/I thing tomorrow in and out of ORD. I'm so thrilled. haha

OO (Hint: SkyWest) will be getting the flap speed restriction as well. I had a line check today and asked the LCA (Hint: Line Check Airman) about it. He showed me the info that OO (Hint again: SkyWest) gave to him.

Sorry if this has been posted, I don't have time to read the entire thread.

OO.

Bombardier determined that there was too much pressure on the flap motors when deploying flaps above 200 kts. Hence, they issued a memo that said that the flaps should only be set when 200 kts or below.

It is frustrating because the CRJ200 has a tough time slowing to 200 kts. The fact that most approach controllers want you to slow to 210 kts and descend doesn't help. We all know that deploying CRJ200 flaps 8 or 20 really helps with the descent rate when coming into somewhere that wants you to descend quickly or where you need to descend quickly.

Personally, I don't like to use flight spoilers. They are loud. I like to think that I can do descent planning better than that, but with this new directive, I don't hesitate to use them more. Compliance with ATC instructions and getting the job done override whether I like to use the flight spoilers or not. After all, they are a tool and should be utilized when the situation dictates.

This AD compliance has been in effect at my company since March or April of this year. I'm surprised some of you are just getting this info. I guess I thought everyone had been doing the 200KIAS flap thing since the spring as well.

At ASA we normally fly 210 knots with the boards out just to slow down and go down...PITA is right

It's alive! Alive, I tell you! Seriously guys, any of you bother to check the date on a thread before you post? Oh well.

Yay, I had to install one of those cards when I worked at mesaba ;o) you can thank me for putting one of them on there :)

In my opinion it's really no big deal. Just plan ahead, and you don't need the boards.

Ok guys, someone is going to have to explain this to me. I fly the jungle jet and have no experience with the Canadair products.

What exactly is the problem with opening the boards? I'm assuming the CRJ200 like most other aircraft of it's class has spoilers, so what's the problem? We use them all the time as needed on the jungle jet, heck; there are places where you absolutely have to have them to accomplish both the speed limitation and crossing altitudes. So again, please educate me, why can't you guys just deploy the spoilers to make up the difference???

A lot of guys think it makes them less of a pilot.....

I don't have time to mess with it. If I need them, I put them out. I could care less what anyone thinks of me. Kind of like asking for a wind check! :p
