TSA Question
 

I have a question that I hope someone can answer: As a commuter I Jumpseat A LOT......anyway..... I was harrassed the other day for aboarding pass. I was in full uniform with ID. They stated that I stillrequired a boarding pass because I was not flying the plane out. I have talked with other guys at this station and they have had thesame problem. Not that its a huge deal to get a pass.... I just want toknow what the rules are.....or where to find out... any thoughts wouldbe much appreciated!!! Thanks for the Info!!!!!

O Yeah.... They would not accept my airline ID as a form of IDeither....This all just started.....Has there been a rulechange....Should I contact ALPA.... I just want to easily get to work...

I've had this happen to me a few times... You ask them for the rules and they dont even know where to find them. The make it up as they go. I've also had them tell me since my company doesn't fly out of certain concourse, i would have to get a boarding pass and that my ID isnt valid in that concourse.....

This has been discussed many times here and a simple search of the forums would probably provide you more information, but I think the general consensus is that you should be allowed through with your airline ID only. If they ask for a boarding pass ask to speak to a supervisor, if the supervisor still insists on a boarding pass, it's probably best to just turn around and get a boarding pass. Many people have dealt with this issue and some airports are more notorious than others. Some airports ask for a boarding pass one day and don't care the next. There isn't much guidance on why they do this since we don't have access to their SOP. My personal recommendation would get the badge number of any supervisor that tells you that you need a boarding pass and contact TSA directly about the issue.

I have been turned around by TSA at EWR for not having a boarding pass, even though I was in uniform with ID. So to eliminate the stress, I just automatically check at the ticket counter and get a pass. Saves a lot of time.

Also, our jumpseat committee says that if we serve the airport then a pass is not needed. We operate into and out of EWR, but I still just sign up for the jumpseat at the ticket counter.

This happened to me once in LAX, (1 out of 15) I had to go to the counter to get a boarding pass. It took 45 minutes because only 1 person behind the counter out of 10 could print a boarding pass, all the other people were just there to help people with the electronic check-in and were not authorized to print passes. The next time I went through LAX, I just went through the line with the person I thought would be the nicest, and it has worked so far.

What ever happened to crewpass?

I have found this to be common at smaller airports. If you are commuting on an airline with which you have nonrev privileges, it should be fairly easy and painless to list and get your security document (aka "Departure Management Card" at United) at the electronic kiosk.

I'm surprised by this, as i commute out of EWR all the time ( ASA ) and I go in through security, full uniform, and it works like a charm. I had one instance of a rash attitude, but it was a man saying i shouldn't have waited in line like the other TSA agent told me to do...so go figure?

I guess my question is have the rules changed. I have done this for twoyears with out it being an issue. Then all of the sudden we haveproblems. I know its a small complaint, but it adds time to a commutethat does not have to be there.
Good Point....were is the famous CREW PASS we were all promised?? Maybe thats why ALPA raised my dues!!!!

I dunno, i commute from the west coast and i never have any problems and most of the people out here have never even heard of most regionals. In fact most people ask what its like flying convicts when i say i worked for comair:cool:
