Does saying your airline code make you cool?

What's up with all these posts??!?!?!? EV, OH, XJ...... Hello who the hell knows what airlines all the codes are for?!?!?!?
It's not like i say hey JS pilots blah blah blah. Or how i wished i worked for OO. Are you really that lazy to type out your airlines name or do you just think it's cool?

flyandive 12-17-2008 10:09 AM

That time of the month, eh?

I didn't really think it was that big of a thing to get worked up about....

IBPilot 12-17-2008 10:13 AM

if he's that worked up over airline codes on this forum, imagine how he is on a daily basis on the cockpit with all those 3 letter VOR indentifiers and airport codes

are you too lazy to research them and see who they stand for???

SpyGlass 12-17-2008 10:15 AM

During our off time we all get together and play airline code scrabble, I just got a "triple word score"...

If you get annoyed that easy, then maybe it's a good thing you're taking some time off. You gotta have a bit of a thick skin in this business. Are you also going to get annoyed when folks use any other acronym such as ILS, VOR, ACARS, OOOI?....It's a forum, people take shortcuts in their post like they do on text messages.

rickair7777 12-17-2008 10:33 AM

After you've been around a while you'll know what they all mean.

Kind of a like "700" means Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet-700 (CL-65).

The poor brother is furloughed from somewhere, chances are he hasn't been in the game that long, all the same, maybe is best if he gets a little time to watch top gun at home and learn how to have thicker skin....:D

So, I'm curious, Maverick, when you decided to start this thread, what kind of a response were you expecting? Or is this pretty much it? :p

Yeah, yeah, just watch the part where ice man tells him he's dangerous....:D:D:D But the volleyball to good old K.L. playing in the ground may help his self esteem.....LOL

usmc-sgt 12-17-2008 10:47 AM

Its probably only because the thread pertains the most to the people who already know what the code is.

Yeah, me too. XE (formerly RU) is a good job, but just not the same. Glad I didn't go to EV, if I went to OO I could be based at home in the CA's seat.

trackpilot 12-17-2008 01:15 PM

haha you guys crack me up! :D

lol, I think I'm the only one to back you up on this one. :D
I used to hate it too, until I learned the codes. I still type the full name, though. Typing this whole F9 crap is a.net dorkiness, IMO. Just type Frontier. It's so much easier to understand. :p ...doesn't bother me anymore, I got used to it, ha!

It's like typing "EV." Typing ASA is only one more letter, and you can type them faster since they're closer to each other than 'E' and 'V'. Geez, people. :D

Ottopilot 12-17-2008 02:10 PM

I agree with the original poster, but I'm not as passionate about the issue. Comparing pilot acronyms is not the same. We all know was VOR & ILS stand for, only those who work for a certain company know what "B9" or whatever stands for. It's a very different thing. I don't know them all, nor do I care to learn them. If a thread starts off with some airline code (not a common acronym) that I don't know, I move on to some other thread. I think I work for CO, but I'm not sure and I don't care. I just show up and fly when they tell me.

Here's one for you guys to figure out:
Who's BTA? That's the airline code on the flight plan, not some airline computer code. Example: Continental is COA.

ExpressJet, short for Britt Airways. :D

Does having a picture from Top Gun as your avatar make you cool?

The answer? No. It makes you look like a tool.
