Although, with what I'm hearing about people unsatting their probie rides, maybe not. They may clean a bunch out that way.
Otherwise, to let people go by screwing with their records and employability is grossly unethical and wrong. |

Not negative. Just realistic. With the announcement of more reduction capacity, something has to give. They cant keep offering LOA's forever.

Didnt they stop approving LTLOAs?
What's the story with the bright orange vests? Did I miss something? Are we getting a new addition to our uniforms (or are we going to have to do ramper work too)? |
i am usually a glass half empty guy and kind of half expect furloughs but i have these arguments in my head and they usually sound like this:
the northeast is terribly understaffed (well ORD and DFW are overstaffed so one big displacement will solve it) we're getting 25 more RJs (haven't we been telling ourselves that for years now?) weren't we still understaffed when we stopped hiring? (the reductions solved that) the northeast is getting 1700 hrs in the spring (are we really though?) sitting ready every day and never getting called is continuing to worry me though...i really don't know what's going to happen anymore....i heard there will be a pilot staffing meeting on the 26th???? |

Very true... I would just point out that for 99% of us, when we were at 400 hours the only people we were capable of killing were ourselves and a student who voluntarilly got in the plane with us.... and when we did make itinto jets, (even small ones) we knew our place and watched, learned, and asked questions.... instead they now tune out on their Ipods. |

At least for some of your positive points there is good old negative thinking: 25 RJs - probably not, saying as we're not going to need them. Understaffed when hiring stopped - why the need for the voluntary LOAs then? 1700 hours of flying - not likely with 10% reductions in capacity. Of course we lose people to attrition, failed probie rides, etc. Its really hard to say. I can't say that I know what goes on in the heads at the "Head Shed" - so who knows what the business suit types are thinking. They use some weird Calculus that none of understand and they have some form of Business Kung-Fu that we are apparently weak in. It is possible they could start hiring tomorrow. I just try and take it one day at a time. I love hearing all the rumors though - and there are no shortage of those. My friend just got done with some training at the schoolhouse and had a whole lot of them to share. I'd love to have confirmation on them: 1. We bought ASA's old ATRs and they are on property (supposedly at some maintenance facility in Arkansas getting painted and worked on) 2. The Saab and ATR-42 simulators are going to be replaced with an ATR-72-600 simulator 3. We signed a contract with ATR for 50 brand new ATR-72-600s. 4. And of course, a statement of fact: We WILL be hiring in April. Those are the gems that I heard. Not sure if any of them stand up to that most harsh mistress I like to call TRUTH. |

Ooops, I made a big old mistake here and now need some characters to cover it up!

If that's the case, I find that to be the biggest bunch of unethical sh*t! If those probies truly suck, it speaks poorly of Eagle training program which I find difficult to believe as it has the reputation of being one of the best.
As many people are fond of pointing out, you can teach just about anybody the stick and rudder skills to pass an SIC checkride after 5-8 weeks of long term preparation....

I am told that most of your ATR related questions are available on jetnet, AE pilots, Q&A section... |
