Default Plane off the Runway at SYR

It sounds like they're getting freezing rain in SYR, which is leading to some issues.

Plane Off Runway At Hancock Airport - NewsChannel 9 WSYR

The story on tv was a little more detailed than online, but was still vague. But they said it was an American Airlines plane. I don't think AA mainline serves SYR anymore, so I'm guessing it's American Eagle. A United Airlines flight was also mentioned to be stuck on the runway. Apparently the ramp (why does the news insist on calling it the tarmac?), is covered in ice, so it should be a fun night Here in upstate NY.

this kinda stuff scares the crap outta me as i think it does to everyone...

there's nothing worse than seeing a tail on the news surrounded by emergency lights...it's even worse when it's one of yours and you have flown it...

Well it doesn't say anyone was injured!! That's good news! Landing in that kind of weather is never an easy task, and stuff like this can happen fairly easily unfortunately.

It not so sure if it scares the crap out of me or just flat out gives me the heeby geebies when I hear an ELT going off on guard freq. Heard one just last week flying to LGA from CHO... scary stuff.

This is why winter scares me when I spend it flying those same planes, but WITHOUT reversers... Good thing Hulas saved some money by not getting 'em...

Flew into SYR today and saw the American Eagle ERJ in the grass (snow) at the end of RW10...
Runway was still closed this afternoon.

It's unfortunate that it happened, but I'm glad everyone is OK.
Fly safe this winter!
