Quit smoking about 6 years ago. Used the patch to get over the cravings. It worked quite well for me. You just have to keep yourself occupied and keep your mind off of it. Give your hands something to do when you think about smoking. Its hard, very hard, and you can only do it when the time is right for you - but if you can make it past those first 2 weeks, you're golden.

Good Luck!

Pardon my frank language, but if that space cadet didn't have the courtesy to tell you before she told all of her friends, good riddance. This is a good thing, even though it doesn't feel that way now. There's millions of other girls, and some of them are normal. :D

Hang in there! Other doors are opening. :)

Next day, she hit for 450.00 more! We had a great time and actually saved most of the money (because I am furloughed and waiting for the UI to start). Headed home and got stuck in ATL (which is ALWAYS the case when I try to nonrev through there!)....but you know what, I got an extra night to spend with the one I love and that was great! Got home.....checked the mail and had a letter for an interview at a place I applied, not flying...but more money (which isnt hard to do on 3rd year FO pay).

All in all...a great week!

What's a DIKFORE? Good luck with the interview!

That must be a great feeling. Congratulations on being a grandpa. I know it meant a lot to my dad, his twin brother comitted suicide, and two days later we found out my wife was pregnant with the aforementioned little crawler. It changed his outlook on life for the second time, congrats, and at least its a boy for you, so the shotgun can stay in the safe until the girl comes next:)

Every day when I get home I am greeted by my three-year-old son running to give me a hug screaming "daddy! daddy!" with my 12-month-old daughter waddling behind him. Life couldn't be better!!!

great thread

Pilotpip 01-28-2009 11:35 PM

Get in the sim late tomorrow night after a four month furlough. Hopefully out on the line by next week.

250, you're stuck in the STL. You know it, love it and can never leave it.

SayAgain 01-31-2009 04:33 PM

Woke up this morning (that's always good), and fairly healthy. Managed to get through a LOFT recently, so still have my job. Currently listening to my boy chatting away upstairs and slamming down my fair share of alcohol after some pizza. Looking forward to a Superbowl party tomorrow. Yep, pretty content. Wonder when the other shoe will drop??

HOWEVER, doing my best to see that it'll get put back together better than it was and best of all...

....there's nothing keeping me in St. Louis anymore! I'm outtie!

Man sorry to hear about your girl ending it on Facebook - why do people do that? Just can't break up face-to-face?? Glad to see you have a great attitude!

Got to the fishing pier around 1pm yesterday. It was 64 degrees in SW FL and everyone was bundled up like it was Halifax in winter! Anyway, threw on a sweatshirt and headed out to continue my furlough goal of catching one of every fish in the Gulf of Mexico. It was a little windy (20 knots) and the water was cloudy so I figured it would be a not so good day. Around 4pm the wind stopped, the water cleared, and the fish... they started biting! I caught some mangrove snappers, pinfish, and to add to my list of fish, a puffer and a sheepshead! Two more down on the list of fish to catch! Yayyyyyyy, ME!

Some guys down the dock caught some huge Black Drum! When they left, I tried their spot, but no luck. But hey, I have all the time in the world to try again! (See, optimism!)

Stallog 02-01-2009 12:14 PM

I found out my UI lasts for 12 months! Whew!

Tdub 02-01-2009 01:11 PM

Got hired full time AGR with my Guard Squadron. Just got off of DNIF (means you can't fly due to a medical issue) and will fly next week for the first time in about 2 months. I can't wait to get back in the air. I took it for granted I think. Never again.

Things WILL get better. Good times will return. This economy will turn around. Hang in there everyone.

BigBallzMagee 02-02-2009 06:17 AM

Went and watched the monkeys at the zoo with my girl then ordered some wings and watched the Superbowl yesterday. Even though Warner played the very end of the first half like a retarded 8th grader they almost pulled it out. :D Woke up today with no hangover and my girl cooking breakfast so today is starting off good so far.

evilboy 02-02-2009 06:27 AM

Had a blast yesterday. Great game!. Rooting for no one in particular, just for good plays. My liver is ****ed off right now, but it'll get over it. Had some fantastic food, and today doing nothing but reading the paper, posting, and eating leftovers......Oooooooh, the couch is looking sooo good right now!.

Salukipilot4590 02-02-2009 07:39 AM

My new road bike comes in this morning.
I'm down to 240 from 310 lbs since September. (Went from having a gut overhang to slight love handles.... don't ask about the stretch marks)
I'm making good headway toward a CFI job out here finally.
I have a coffee date with an awesome woman this afternoon.
I didn't watch the superbowl for the first time in my life.
I finally perfected "Castles made of sand" on the guitar, with vocals.
My tax return paid my medical bills and credit card bills.
Its going to be 75 degrees and clear today.

All in all being furloughed doesn't suck right now.

emsgoof 02-02-2009 07:55 AM

I got to laugh at a 911 abuser that reminds me of the t-rex from "Meet the Robinsons" (she has a large head and really short arms) :D

Good day post eh?

Well despite myself and 7 other pilots being terminated without cause yesterday, we all got together and made bonds of friendship stronger than any I have ever known.

Plus I've got scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch.

sigep_nm 02-02-2009 09:28 PM

I went to the FBR open in PHX (Golf Tournament) and had one of the best time in years at any sporting event. Cheers to the USair pilots (EAST by the way) that made my experience in jumpseat as good as it was. I highly recommend this tournament to anyone, the 16th hole is completelty worth it...

No matter what happens in our personal or professional lives I always feel good knowing that someone/thing made this amazing playground we call earth for us and we will always have our little sand box to play in... I taught my 23 mo old to recognize the written word "Hi" today.

Thank you all that posted and for those that let this thread die. It just reaffirmed my knowledge that all of us are a whiny group of underachievers who expect the over achiever benefits, that all we can do is complain but do nothing about it, because we lack the talent to do anything about it. "I fly an airplane" I know that is what you will say, good for you, so can I, and that is something positive and congratulations, you do something that a whole lot of people cant do, and a whole lot of people wish they could do. And you get paid for it also, and if you dont like it, quit, or else shut up seriously, or furlough yourself, or once again shut up.

Only adult fish count, you know. Let us know when you catch the hammerhead. Pictures, please. If he gets you instead, give him the camera and your web login ...

Good news is I think I've figured out what's screwing up my back, and I also think I can fix it!

evilboy 02-12-2009 07:53 AM

With all the nastyness happening in some of the other threads, it is time to revive this one!.

My positive thought today;
Lost 5 lbs, getting the excercise routing going again, eating habits are getting better, and overall having a good time in this furlough situation.

:D

Yzerman 02-12-2009 09:13 AM

Windshield wipers quit working in my truck yesterday, but I fixed them myself today using some basic tools, WD-40, and Google. Total out of pocket cost: $0.00.

jeepcrawln 02-12-2009 10:50 AM

It's nice to see things thats are positive these days with everything going bad... For me I'm trying to turn my furlough into something positive. I quit smoking almost 2 months ago, I now work out and bike an average of 60-70 miles as week and am trying to get back in good shape. So far I've lost 20 pounds and am getting back some lung capacity. There is always a silver lining do bad times, you just need to find it. Cheers to all of you with the good news.

ArchAngel 02-12-2009 11:16 AM

Even though I found out about PDT's current hiring state last week, this week has been surprisingly good-
Sent another student for an instrument rating: he passed!
Went for an MEI cert: I passed!
Had midterms for master's degree: I passed!
And...have my first helicopter intro lesson tomorrow!

Let's keep this thread going- we all need to hear each other's good news in today's climate.

Although I was laid off from my salaried position a few months ago, I'm sitting in beautiful Monterey, California right now getting paid to fly for a couple of days as a contract pilot

My wife and I snapped up a ridiculously cheap Hawaii travel package recently and we're leaving next week.

This thread is still alive.

TXTECHKA 02-12-2009 02:10 PM

Unusually warm couple days in North Texas so I'm hooking up the boat and going fishing tomorrow. Life's pretty good.

Good news indeed!.

Well, if you're in a relationship, I would sure as hell hope so ... if you picked her up at a bar, it depends on whether she was too drunk to leave early, or she was actually interested in staying. I would say cheers to ya!
