American Eagle Traffic Tumbles
February 4, 2009 6:13 PM ET
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - American Eagle, the sister carrier to American Airlines, said Wednesday that January traffic tumbled 17.9 percent and planes flew only three-fifths full on average. The company said paying passengers on Eagle and Executive Airlines traveled 521.9 million miles last month, down from 635.4 million miles in January 2008. That was faster than the regional carrier could cut flights. Capacity fell 12.4 percent to 852.6 million available seat miles. Occupancy dropped to 61.2 percent on average, down from 65.3 percent a year earlier. Shares of parent AMR Corp. fell 25 cents, or 4.5 percent, to close at $5.31. They have traded between $4 and $16.49 over the past 52 weeks. AMR 5.00 -0.31 -5.84% American Eagle traffic tumbled in January: Associated Press Business News: AMR - MSN Money |
I flew MKE - CLT on an AWAC usair flight last week while airlineing home from a trip... CRJ-200 with 19 passengers...... then CLT - PNS on a CRJ -700 ( PSA ) with 27 passengers....... looked bleak in the USair express concourse in CLT

you would not think that the parking of all SAAB's and 9 EMB's (after the 145's come back) have anything to do, do you? AMR and accurate numbers do not go together. Besides AE and AMR are still in contract talks and bad numbers are good for them.

i don't think anyone in the northeast can get a drop or a personal vacation day without some stroke of luck...(although our chicago reserve guys are doing an awesome job of dropping their month and coming over and picking up our open time...) |

4 atrs from ASA are coming to DFW. Confirmed by an ALPA rep today
|
Has it been confirmed by the company yet?
No disrespect, but I've been lied to one too many times by an ALPA rep to take anything said to me at face value. I'll believe it when I'm flying one of them. From the Eagle Pilot Q&A page on Jetnet: "Question: (1-22-09) Is it true Eagle just bought some old ASA ATRs to fly here? If so, where will the ATRs be based? Response: I have contacted the powers that be and have been advised that American Eagle has not purchased any additional ATR aircraft." |
Its a done deal little buddy. Take it to the bank. You can quote me on it.

So the email I get from ALPA LEC 83 states that we are supposed to be getting 4 ATRs that will be on property in 6 to 12 months. They don't mention the source of the planes though...
I will believe it when I am behind the controls of one, however. Maybe I'm a skeptic, but I've been burned by rumor before and I'm not inclined to believe things I hear. I require direct proof. So I'm not willing to take it to the bank (or AA Credit Union) at this juncture - I'd rather buy a few thousand shares of Mesa stock. It may be a better investment! I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't believe things just because ALPA says it. If its true, it'll be great...but its probably to replace some older ones that are tired and worn. Did ASA fly the 212A or just the four bladed beauty? |
They haven't purchased them. Have they leased them?

No alphas, they are straight 72s with some configuration differences. They are early 90's vintage I have been told so don't get your hopes up.
|
Sweet, make room on the maintenance ramp for 4 more broken ATRs in DFW.
|
I suppose 90s vintage would be better than some of the 80s vintage 72s we have! I don't even look at the AC total time anymore - I usually don't like what I see!
|
I dont believe it until they are flying with EAGLE PILOTS up front. In the meantime, thats just more ALPA propaganda.

I'll believe it when I'm flying an ATR with tail numbers I don't recognize. |
