Default American Eagle Traffic Tumbles

February 4, 2009 6:13 PM ET
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - American Eagle, the sister carrier to American Airlines, said Wednesday that January traffic tumbled 17.9 percent and planes flew only three-fifths full on average.

The company said paying passengers on Eagle and Executive Airlines traveled 521.9 million miles last month, down from 635.4 million miles in January 2008.

That was faster than the regional carrier could cut flights. Capacity fell 12.4 percent to 852.6 million available seat miles. Occupancy dropped to 61.2 percent on average, down from 65.3 percent a year earlier.

Shares of parent AMR Corp. fell 25 cents, or 4.5 percent, to close at $5.31. They have traded between $4 and $16.49 over the past 52 weeks.

Anyone care to revise their opinions that after Eagle gets all the planes back from TSA that they will be hiring and not furloughing?

you would not think that the parking of all SAAB's and 9 EMB's (after the 145's come back) have anything to do, do you? AMR and accurate numbers do not go together. Besides AE and AMR are still in contract talks and bad numbers are good for them.

It's absolutely false. We are getting 0 ASA ATRs. The info is on Jetnet, Eagle Pilots, Q&A (or is it FAQs?) page. No new ATRs coming at all as of yet. I've been hearing this rumor a lot lately, but its just a rumor.

Contract negotiations or not, no company is going to release information that will drive its stock down for the purpose of a contract. That does the company no good at all - much more harm than good comes from that.

i dunno they can't seem to live without me in the northeast...i have to go in tonight to work one day of reserve tomorrow then i start vacation...could not drop it due to "staffing"...

i don't think anyone in the northeast can get a drop or a personal vacation day without some stroke of luck...(although our chicago reserve guys are doing an awesome job of dropping their month and coming over and picking up our open time...)

No kidding!! I've made 3 attempts to drop something just to get a freakin weekend day off with no luck. Obviously it's so important for me to sit around for 8 hours at the airport waiting for the phone call which will inevitably never occur...
