Nobody comes over here to get your airline job. There is not a single way a non citizen can come here and sign up for the job. The people that you have here are permanent residents that have right to work and live in this country.
When people get furloughed, they get furloughed with US citizens as well..

Except if you can evade the Canadian Tax system you will be bring home more then a 8 year eagle f/o.

Funny story though, when AC was operating the CRJ-100 and 200s they couldn't find pilots on the seniority list to bid them. That was then and this is now I suppose....

rickair, it seems like the issue you have is that foreign green card pilots can get hired here and American pilots in EU can't. Most job postings over there advertise "right to live and work" (i.e., permanent residency or work permit), not "citizenship." In this regard, the rules are exactly the same in both continents. If you can get a green card over there, you can get hired as a pilot also. Now as far as the reality of getting a green card over there... I'm sure it's pretty damn difficult. I could see why you'd say that it's unbalanced. But like others have said, it's not like it's easy here either. It took my boyfriend EIGHT YEARS to finally get the green card (start of the process to finish), after already being in the country for more than a decade. If you spent that much time in the EU I'm sure you'd find a way to get a green card over there too.

Bottom line, both continents allow legal aliens to obtain jobs, and it's difficult in both continents to become legal aliens.

Hi!

willflyforcash:
What about the illegal aliens that are massively CONTRIBUTING to our society? How, you might ask? My taking low paying jobs that no one else will, which keeps our food prices lower at the market. By paying property taxes on the homes they own. By paying income taxes, just like everyone else (there ARE illegals with SSNs that pay taxes, just like I do).

What about American born, American citizens, who are LEECHING off our system? Are they any better? I say, if you CAN work, and you choose NOT to, that you get NO welfare and NO foodstamps! Get off the coach, or lose your support, you butthead!

Illegal Aliens, in the first place, are not even the issue. Do we worry about illegal aliens from Canada? No. Do we worry about illegal aliens from China? No. Do we worry about illegal aliens from the Carribean, or Africa? No.

What we are really saying, is we don't like MEXICANS. That's right, DIRTY MEXICANS!

This is really just like the Nazis, and other groups, that picked on the Jews in hard times.

Because of our situation, we can't really blame everything on the Jews this time, so those of us in the positions of power and influence, who want to divide our country, and make scapegoats of SOMEONE, picked the Mexicans.

They sometimes admit it, but usually cover it up by saying "Illegal Aliens". Just admit it. What they want, is a Kristallnacht against the Mexicans, so they can feel better, and advance their own power, and make more money.

And to think most of them say they are "Conservative Christians". I think Christ would be helping the Mexicans, and saying guys like Limbaugh should be put in jail, or at least ignored and isolated, as a cancer on our society, just like Jesus did to those in power at the temples of his day.

British families can't just move over here and get a green card. Just like you can't move over there and get residency. What you may or may not "see" is irrelevant. It's too bad this got spurred on based an unqualified observation.

I know that you don't know anyone who just moved here from a foreign country because they "felt like it" with none of the qualifying elements of a green card and started working legally.

Default Ignorance

Just wanted to educate my fellow pilots here, I am a once green card holder, now naturalized US citizen.

To get a green card is not easy, so the argument that all the foreigners are talking our jobs is pure ignorant and silly.

As a US Citizen you can go to Europe and get work permits the same way most of us green card holders got them. Only thing I agree with, you would have to deal with the Moronic, and protectionist JAA/JAR nonsense conversion, that serves no possible mission other than being an bureaucratic obstacle. Especially since the FAA converts a JAA/JAR license with relative ease.

Anyway just my two cents...

Atpcliff is right. Give it up.
Not sure why this country has so much adversion to this particular group of people.
Anyhow, some of my comments in this particular thread have been erased due to the nature of the content, so I'm going to keep some comments to myself, except this one;
"Not any one of you really knows about this issue, unless you have lived thru it". My hat's off to those of you who have come here, gone thru this ordeal, and are contributing to this great society!.
