RJET stock

No Flame zone: Is there some news from the past day or two that I haven't seen? I've been looking around and can't find anything to justify the jump in price. Even the traded volume so far hasn't been crazy. Oil is up which usually steers the direction of the airline stocks. I'm a little baffled. Happy... but baffled. Over the past two days up 50%. That has to happen for a reason.

Two possible scenarios that may be in the works:

1. Mesa filing CH11 and RJET buying Mesa thus eliminating competition in Hawaii.

2. Buying Compass from Delta and operating 36 more E-175's.

Maybe associated with Frontier posting an operating profit for February...not a big one, but one none the less. Reassures some fund investors that the money loaned may be more secure. The volume trading spiked about the same time (it appears to be running almost double what the ten day volume has been). Some of the volume may be related to the general market up tick as well.

Bingo! that would do it! I had no idea F9 made a profit that's great news. Even with traffic down they are pulling ahead. I had no idea about this but that would play a huge role.

Looks like all of the airlines were up today for some reason. Continental, Delta, and United all jumped by at least 10%. Strange considering how oil is up, but I don't mind it at all!

1. Highly unlikely

2. Unlikely

I bought shares at $4.34. Only bought half of what I could have but I didn't want to put all my eggs in one basket. Sold today at $6.63. Not bad for three days.

DOT Gives Shuttle America the Flexibility to Fly Solo

Shuttle America received U.S. Transportation Dept. approval to offer service independent of its fee-for-service arrangements with U.S. airlines, giving the Republic Airways Holdings subsidiary the freedom to go that route although it has no immediate plans to do so (DAILY, Dec. 18th).

In approving the request March 23, the DOT said Shuttle America told the department it had "no immediate plans" to start a self-branded service but wanted "the flexibility to respond quickly to new marketplace opportunities." Shuttle America's request was essentially identical to a request made by Republic Airways subsidiary Republic Airlines; the DOT approved that request in November 2007, but Republic still offers services solely through contracts with U.S. carriers, flying as US Airways Express and Midwest Connect.

Shuttle America currently operates 37 Embraer E-170 and 13 E-175 aircraft under fee-for-service arrangements, flying as United Express, Delta Connection and Mokulele.

The DOT said it approved Shuttle America's request because "the record indicates that Republic Airways Holdings has substantial financial resources to support [Shuttle America] in conducting independent operations." Under the conditions of that approval, if
Shuttle America does decide to conduct independent operations, it must notify the DOT at least 45 days before starting the service.

Got a link for that DOT report?

I haven't been able to find one...
