There are reasons we aren't furloughing.

That's what I'm waiting for too!

Actually, it sounded like they were just a couple "fine" points away from making this an option too when we went through RGS.

If they actually followed the contract and had full pass benefits while on TOWOP, I think there would be more takers.

1)Why continue with TOWOPS when you can furlough?
2) Furlough costs way too much money...when I personally think more flying is on the way.
3) Why even work on half-time lines if it's going to be a later rather than sooner type of thing when it comes to more flying? They don't want half-time lines for something of more than a year.

Your #1 and #2 contradict each other... why TOWOP when you can furlough... yet furloughs "cost way too much money".

As for #3...you haven't heard much about E.W. have you? (there is nothing rational about him).

Personally, I believe Nagel (naive or not). Delta is paying us not to furlough. It makes sense to have us 'standing by' with the ability to absorb excess capacity... either as insurance against a Mesa implosion or as leverage against the other DCIs I don't know.

I completely agree, but let me clear up what I said. The company does have a reason to furlough right now because we are 100(or so) fat on pilots, but they are continuing with the TOWOPS instead to save the money which i made the point in number 2.

That seems to be the concensus as to why XJ is not furloughing. As someone pointed out it costs a lot of money to furlough pilots and it would make no business sense unless you can furlough more than 100 people for more than a few years. No one knows what is in store for XJ later on this year, certainly not Nagel, he would be one of the last one to find out like the rest of us. Only one who would know for sure would be RA and his close subordinates.

Let's just enjoy the 14 to 18 days off schedules and see what happens this summer.

MEC chairs have knowledge of things beyond our wild imaginations.

Regarding over staffing... someone pointed out to me tonight that if we worked for a truly evil bottom feeding company, they could just fire the probationary pilots of their choosing to solve our over staffed situation. Try that one on for size and see how you like it. We have a lot to be thankful for at XJ.

Not sure where you get this from? They would not be able to furlough whomever they wanted. Mesa, who is a "truly evil bottom feeding company," has not furloughed whomever they wanted. They did try several years ago, but that didn't pan out...
