Since when did tipping become an obligation? Half of the responses here are people ripping on others for not tipping. What buisness of anybodies is it whether they tip or not? And why the hell are there people trying to force their own habits on others? I personally can care less whether the crew I am with tips them or not. Maybe when I make enough money to be able to take the fast way home, instead of going around to avoid the tolls, I will take a different stance on this topic.

Tipping is over the top these days. Everybody expects a tip. It is the hotel shuttle drivers job to pick you up and drop you off at the airport. He makes a normal wage, probably similar to the cleaning people at the hotel, but you don't leave them a tip for cleaning up after you? Restaurants and haircuts is another thing, so are rides to restaurants etc.

Sometimes I tip, sometimes I don't. Depends what mood I am in for the most part. As far as how much, 1$ per bag? If only the rampies had 1$ per bag they load onto the plane..

Exactly. And most of the time tipping is expected but not worked for. If you've traveled abroad to Europe or Asia, the service you get by even walking to a McDonalds is 5 star. Over here people don't even look at you in the eye and walk away when you give em a tip.

I only tip if I get a ride anywhere not to/from the airport.

I usually don't even let the van drivers touch my bags and it has to be a huge hustle and bustle because they feel better to make me feel bad by grabbing my bags rather than me not tipping.

I pay $40/mo for parking, and my company reimburses me $20 for it so I pay $20 out of pocket for parking to go to work. I've done the math and If I don't tip, I save $24/mo on 4 4-4days. I use the $4 or $5 on out of the way tips, and the money I don't use to tip I get to use to pay for my parking for work.

That's very true. I've been to McDonald's restaurants in Turkey, Japan, and Honduras, and they've all bussed my trays. The whole tipping thing here is way out of control. People sometimes actually get surprised when you tip overseas. It's amazing how some people need an incentive to perform their jobs well in the US.

I used to tip when I was in the states, but that was more because of the tipping culture there, now that I am overseas, no tips and 5 star service...

it's their job, they get paid to do it, if they don't like the pay, then get a different job... that's what was said to me when I was in the states making pennies...

Depends what mood I'm in. I certainly don't NEED somebody to stow my bags for me... half of the time they scratch them anyways. He's being paid a wage to drive the van. It's a $1 at most when I do tip for a 3 minute van ride. The van in JAN picked us up at like 2 AM one time and I was under the impression that he went out of his way to come pick us up at that time, so I gave him a $5. See how this works?

I'm furloughed, so I do not tip.

The answer is yes, normally 5-6 bucks, sometimes more, and I cover the First if he's/she's junior. If they're senior, we'll each do every other leg.

EVERYBODY seems to want a tip now. Everyone seems to think they are entitled to a tip. No tip for doing what they're already being paid to do. Our company negotiates rates which includes a van service.

They provide the same service as us pilots but their job requires a considerable amount of less skill....and they deserve the tip?

If they go outside what they are already required to do for me then I’ll show my appreciation by giving them a dollar.

Besides, I dont feel too bad when I see that huge wad of cash in their cup holder.
