And you just described why I'd take a downgrade LONG before a base displacement. But that's just me.

I bring my Macbook Pro, headphones, a few DVDs and head to an empty section of the airport to relax for up to 8 hours. With the wifi connection I watch movies from Netflix. I bring my lunch so I don't spend much on airport food. It sucks, but at least I have a job. I have been doing ready reserve every month for the last 3 months....no end in sight.

If you live that close why not check in then go back home? If I lived that close that's what I'd have done on ready.

does your contract require you to be at the airport? if it does and you're at home when they call and the car won't start? waive the contract at your own risk, it is there to protect you.

I've blocked less than 90 hours so far this year. I recently went 85 days without flying. Been studying for the CPA exam.

...depends on the base/airport, I guess. Being in DTW, I wouldn't do that unless I had someone to drop me off at the airport. With how often those parking lot shuttles run, you could easily be hosed. I was at the Stopover store in DTW once when I got a call. I had left my stuff in my car (was regular reserve, long story) so I had to go back to the employee lot to fetch them. By the time I got to B1, it had literally been 40 minutes from the time of the phone call, all due to the shuttles.

So...if you rely on parking your car, then it's playing with fire. However, I know of some guys on ready reserve who just stay at the crashpad and who have other crashpadees drop them off at the airport if they get called. It's the only way I can see it working.

I got a downgrade AND a displacement after the furlough. I used to live in base. Hopefully this wont last long, and will get back to base. At least it's a job for now.

Good thing the Mrs has a good job.

Have you considered increasing your porn intake. I can usually kill about 18 hours/day.
