Experience with Island Air?
Based in Honolulu...
need the gouge and other ideas in the Aloha state.
I am no longer thinking where I should live. I am moving to Hawaii next year, early. I am looking for a decent company.
Anyone want a semi-sweet corporate gig flying a Sabreliner, a brand new Avanti and a Caravan on floats, starting next year? (as PIC, my current gig.)

Hey FuelJetA,
I have looked into them. They fly DHC-8-100's and just picked up some Q400. Their website is www.islandair.com. Check out their pay scale/stats on APC. I have heard both good and bad...but I am putting in my paperwork there. I am VERY into that lifestyle. (Big Jimmy Buffett fan...goes with the territory) Good luck to you - maybe I will see you down there?

You guys have some great info. Is there any chance at all that you guys could provide some contact info for these companies (any that fly into Hilo or Kona?)
I have around 3,300 total and 500 jet pic and and around 2,000ME and maybe 500 turboprop. I would gladly take a job that pays little. I will have free housing in the Hilo area and we are definitely moving.
Any help would be appreciated.

Average home costs around $450,000. That gets you 3 bedrooms, maybe 2 baths, and around 1200 sq/ft. Be good to your neighbors because you will be very close to them (houses are practically built on top of each other. Can't afford a house, condo's go for around $300,00 - on up. Rent A room, pay around $700 -$1000 (but it lets you use the laundry facilities. Milk, $5 - $6 a gallon. Gas is close to $4 if not already there.
Was it a great time, you bet. Could'nt afford it now if NWA reopened the pilot base! (Well, I guess I could, but I don't like living paycheck to paycheck and would like to have some savings when I retire)

We have free housing and the prices that you are telling me for housing look pretty much exactly the same as Philly unless you want to live in the ghetto.
I appreciate the info though!

Island Air should be hiring. There was a new class that finished ground school about a week or two ago... they should be doing the sim about now. I've heard the ground and sim training is very intense. Mins are 1000TT/200ME. The latest rumor (that I know of) going around is that they'll be getting jets soon. I'm skeptical of that rumor and want to see if it really happens. Island Air seems to have been doing pretty good lately and the Q400 looks like a good choice for them.
Another rumor spreading around is that Mokulele Airlines (yes, they are an airline now - Part 135) is in bed with Mesa. I've heard they are working out a deal to bring Be 1900's to the islands to go Part 121 and codeshare flights for go!
We'll see...
