Reserve Schedules
#11
That's exactly what I'm doing. I live in base, though. I have 8 days off in a row coming up. However, to get that, I had to have 6 on 1 off for the other weeks. It's ok for me, though. They don't call me often so I like to use my days off for traveling elsewhere.
Like Avro said, 11 days off while on reserve is all you get from our company. If I had to commute, I would deeply hate my job. However, I don't mind it now since I don't 'work' much and get to stay home doing other things while on-call.
Commuting from Europe would be insane. Your QOL would be obliterated.

Guess you don't get stuck with the ready reserve bullstuff much then.....

From: Left seat, wait right seat, no no left seat, nope right seat! Ummmm, I guess I am confused
As sick as it sounds I pulled ready reserve for tomorrow and it is almost a relief! I have been just sitting around for months now and getting to the airport, even to sit there is at least a little change of pace. However, now that the weather is getting better I hope this is the last ready reserve I do for awhile

If you are in DTW, I'll be joining you. For some reason we went from under to overstaffed overnight.... I think the staffing has been changed to have ready reserve if at all possible now as well so that's not helping things.

You would be very surprised. Military time is looked upon very favorably, and rightfully so. Try making contacts with ex-mil pilots who work at major carriers you would like to get on with. I know the hiring situation is a bit tight now, but have you looked into working overseas jobs and commuting from germany? I know the middle east and africa have been hotbeds for employment(corporate and airline flying), and the commute would probably be easier.
