Wow, they make it sound like flying an RJ is like performing brain surgery while blind folded......... if that's the case where is my raise?

Who does their Jepp revisions at home?

The Juice 05-09-2009 02:29 PM

I liked when he complained about how tired he gets on 4 leg days. Trying doing 8 legs, summer, IAH, in a Saab sucker.

No ****. His info was still sugar-coated. Granted I haven't had those days, it's pretty apparent our turboprop brothers typically have those long taxing days.

I do... sometimes.

It would be great if we could get the blame for perceived "safety issues" to be pointed at the salaries and working conditions in general for regional pilots. I work another job to get by just like many other pilots I know, and it definitely cuts into my happiness.

Unfortunately I don't think that exposing conditions at the regionals will ever translate into higher salaries for pilots, just an unwillingness to fly on "small planes".

Nope, the public is only going to take away "inexperience" and "fatigue", and in great part thanks to that douche bag from RAA, they will think that the fatigue factor is entirely our fault. The public may say, "wow, they only make 20K", but at the end of the day they won't equate salary to safety.

So, as well rounded as this article was (better than most POS media outlets here in the States), it's still not going to be enough to bring public awareness to the real issues.

Apples to Oranges. I don't disagree that doing 8 cycles in one day may be tiring, but you gotta remember, I may do anywhere between 2-4 on the jet, but I'm still going to spend the same amount of time as you in the air, and my duty day could be just as long if not longer. It's all relative, after 4 legs on the jet of close to 2 hrs each, you will be tired, that's just how it is.

Sure it raises public awareness. But what is a person to do when he/she buys a ticket, gets to the airport an sees a regional jet, not go? They need to be somewhere so they white knuckle it all the way to their destination. They are aware, just not many choices for them.

Try 10 leg days no autopilot, no flight director, no fms, no gps. Since the plane only has 19 seats though, I'm not working as hard and can therefor work 20 more hours per month than the RJ drivers. Good job FAA.
