If you ever fly international, they will ask for your pilot's license number. Not smart to give out your SS# to a Mexican custom agent.

The FAA has started a program to remove Social Security Numbers from FAA issued certificates.

If you want to remove your SSN from your certificate, and trust me you should, go here http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certific...SSN_Change.pdf

That was years ago it started, you shouldn't have a certificate with your SSN on it if you have gotten a rating since 2002.

no you still have to go physically change it on the website. I've got a type rating and english proficiency on mine since 02 and in both cases the Feds did not voluntarily change my cert number from my SS.

Did you ask them to? I had mine changed by a FAA inspector after he completed my checkride, but of course I asked. No computer necessary.
