Do you have to wear the company's headset?

Transstates latest GOM revision states were are not allowed to wear privately owned headsets. We must wear the ones the company provides.

Are there any other companies out there with this same policy?

By the way, I just sneezed on that mic.....

I wonder how many are actually going to comply with that. What was the reason?

ToiletDuck 05-16-2009 06:05 PM

No but I wear them and I'd say over 90% of the others I fly with due too. A simple wipe down with an alcohol cloth ensures you have a perfectly clean headset when you get in the aircraft. Some fear it but no real reasons as to why. I think SWA might force their guys to use company headsets. There were several flying with the bose QC2 and uflymic attachments. Most places just require TSO headsets.

No way in hell I'd wear a Trans States (or SkyWest) provided headset. Just say no!

Just another thing to write up when they're broken, (typical), as we're required to have 3 on board. Found a plane the other day where the gel seal was punctured and the gel had leaked all over the headset box and the other ones in there. Most of the headsets have already been cannibalized for their parts anyways.

I can't wait till the write-ups start on this one. Hulas - "Whaddya mean EVERY ONE OF THE FLIGHTS today was cancelled?!?!"

Most of those headsets have been cannibalized. Its just another thing to write up which is fine by me.

Another gem from the new revision is the FOs have to have their flight kit INSPECTED every time you change aircraft or start a trip by the CA to make sure you've got all your required items and all manuals are up to date. Oh, and FOs don't have to carry a GOM anymore either, though I don't know why you wouldn't.

Looks like they're doing a good job making life miserable over there.

Be careful, I got a rash on my head after wiping one of those headsets down.

I hope you guys take a minute to check the smoke goggles too. They're looking a little scratched...

Haha, you're kidding me... I can't wait for some jackass to demand to "inspect" my flight kit...
