Toss the backpacks and buy some decent luggage.

What is so out of this world about making sure your shirt is pressed and his shoes are shined? The fact he flys for the regional side means he cant look good. Youre an idiot. Thank you by the way for playing police officer and solving all of our REAL problems. |

You both sound like you have never been to an airport. I have seen more pilots with IPODs in the majors than in the regionals in the last month, who cares? And because of the complaining on this internet forum from one or two people, I started looking for wrinkled shirts/pants/blazers to see what all the fuss is about: Turns out its 1 out of 3 pilots, and in all regionals and majors. I wonder if any of those people have reduced rest overnights that allow 4 hours of sleep. No, probably not.
Thank you by the way for playing police officer and solving all of our REAL problems. Solving real problems by ironing my shirt, dude get over yourself. |

"dude", how old are you? You are the one comlaining about lack of professionalism by wrinkled clothes and dull shoes while calling me dude.
If you think you need to look like garbage in your uniform for the fact you dont get paid 100 000 a year to fly around makes me think you need to give your head a shake..... dude. Attitudes like yours are what gives some of us pilots a bad name. You want the public to put some faith in who is up front then look and act like you deserve that faith and respect for that matter. I dont care if a mainline pilot has spiked hair or has an ipod get over it that is what they wanna do then good for them. I doubt that same pilot whines and complains everyday his job sucks and he definitely doesnt tell people to come back to the realword for having an ironed shirt. |

How about this. We all knew what the pay was like when we signed on. I am sure you talked to enough people to know what the work days were like. I am also sure that you heard about some of the bad things but ummmmm..... every single one of you still showed up on day 1 for training.
Nobody is putting a gun to your head forcing you to be at work everyday. If it is so miserable for you then quit... |

Not so well spoken from someone who told everyone in another thread if they dont like their work rules or pay to quit so you can move up. Once you have been here long enough and you try to push for better work rules to improve your industry, there will be another greedy little pilot like yourself waiting to say "You knew what you were going to be paid, if you dont like it, then quit so I can have your job." And again, nothing will be gained by any of us.
Um, I already have a job, why would I want someone elses job at a different connection carrier. Also did I say quit so I could move up? No I didn't thanks for the assumptions. All I am saying is ya hate it so much quit and find a new job. Or maybe you might like collecting unemployment like a lot people are. Look on the brightside at least you have a job. |
Why is using an IPod in a terminal unprofessional? I saw a pilot the other day reading a newspaper, talking on a cellphone, and eating a burger. How dare he! I was unaware of the fact that doing everyday things was unprofessional.
Hey Fred maybe you can use your "dynasty heavy" paycheck to buy me some DECENT luggage. PM me for an address to have it shipped. Thanks. People on this forum thinking they are better than someone else based on where they work for, or what they fly makes me sick. Everyone's version of what they did to get where they are now is very different. Maybe they can't afford it. Maybe they really like that backpack that got them through college. Maybe their kid gave it to them. someone having, or not having, "decent" luggage does not at all reflect on their professionalism, or public perception of them whatsoever. Find something else to do in the terminal. Make sure you don't use the public restroom though, thats for the PJ wearing IPod using peons, not you "professionals". |
Dude/Dudettes, plain and simple you're a professional look and act the part.
Definition of professionalism: Meticulous adherence to undeviating courtesy, honesty, and responsibility in one's dealings with customers and associates, plus a level of excellence that goes over and above the commercial considerations and legal requirements. I think this includes ironing your shirts guys/gals. |

reading the regional forums sometimes reminds me of the /trade channel in WoW.. (again, if I have to explain it, you won't get it)

This includes not wearing an IPOD walking around the airport in uniform. |

Just stick to CFI work. Sorry to bother you with such dribbling, at least the previous poster took the time to make his opinion heard. You must be busy ironing, and my virgin CFI ears probably couldn't understand you divine voice anyway. Thanks for letting me know where I stand in life and what I should "stick" to. |
[quote=Cycle Pilot;613080]You can't even compare the two. Eating lunch vs walking around the airport with headphones on? When we put on that uniform, we're representing our airline and our profession. (To be honest, I don't even like it when passengers walk around listening to MP3 players, but that's a whole 'nother thread!) When you have your uniform on, you are the one of the many people who a customer/passenger may approach for help or an answer to a question. It's not easy to approach somebody who's walking around with earphones on not paying attention to what's going on around them. quote]
While I totally agree with the not wearing headphones in the terminal. My experience seems to be that when I was one the phone, people came up to me even more to ask a question about where their gate was? Where is the restroom? etc. then if I was just walking to my gate with no distractions.....Yet the sign for those questions was always above their heads. Guess I looked helpful. |
What about being fat and out of shape? I see a lot of those types of pilots and they certainly don't look professional. I don't see the difference between them and someone who is in shape who happens to be wearing an i-pod.

They don't understand that kind of talk, they're only CFIs. They might even drool while they talk. |

At Sporty's, there is a video "How an Airline Captain Should Look and Act" which should be a must to see by every Airline Pilot.

Maybe if the employers in the industry treated pilots, flight attendants, and customer service employees with a little more respect then they would respect their employers and their career choice a little more. Right now they are acting just how they are being treated!
