I just went to Costa Rica from Orlando and checked my 6'0" surf board without any problem(Im a furloughed Comedyair guy). Thats because Orlando ticket agents are super nice and look out for OTHER EMPLOYEES. I have checked many oversized bags in the states without a problem and have always had the fee waived. I understand the policy is to charge as if you were a paying customer but most ticket agents will waive the fee. Again, we look out for each other. However, my friend and I were finished with out trip to Costa Rica and he was jump seating on Delta with me. We get to the ticket counter to check in and the agent recognizes that I have a surf board to check...
She says "I will have to charge you a oversized fee."
I said "Don't be ridiculous, Im sure you will help me out and waive the
fee."
She says "I cannot do that"
I said "This has never happened to me in the states, we help each other out. We are both employees."
She got her manager and she denied me as well. She wanted to charge me 300 dollars to check a surf board that was probably worth 100 dollars. I refused to pay and decided to take my bag, fins, and leash. I checked those 3 items and gave my board to some employee at the airport. I was quite p!ssed. I find out that my friend, who was jump seating on Delta, checked in with a ticket agent that had some common sense and allowed him to check his bag without any fee. If I ever fly again, I prey to God that the lady who checked me in will one day try to non-rev on my flight. I will deny her access to that airplane in a heartbeat. I remember her face perfectly.
The Fee for checking a board on Delta is 30 dollars if the only checked bag and 40 if the second checked item.

Trying to figure out logistics/ fees/ OAL non rev.
How much is the + part. Delta has a 115" linear limit on surfboards.

Are the CR agents DL employees or contract staff? I would expect less latitude on waiving a fee from a contract staffer if they have overbearing station managers watching their every move.
