They should have refused to bargain that size aircraft, allow it to go to arbitration, and the arbitor would have used "industry standard," or "industry average." both of which would have shown that it is a mainline aircraft, not a regional.

The arguement that pilots always have NO control whatsoever over their equipment is an outright lie. While it is true in most cases, it isn't always true. This is one of the times it isn't.

Those arguements do have some limited validity. In the present cases of outsourcing to regionals, we have management replacing their pilots with outside labor.... they are just doing it with a collective contract to a regional airline, instead of hiring one person at a time to sit in their pilot's seats. They are also doing it before the pilots obtain the opportunity to strike over the issue. So, in effect there is some validity to the use of the term.

In the strictest sense/interpretation the word is not accurate... However, if all one focuses on are the effective results then the term is fairly accurate. It also needs to be considered that times change, the days of airline management waiting for their pilots to strike before replacing them is all but gone. Much simpler to just outsource to regionals that are flying larger and larger aircraft every day.

Perhaps the strict definition of the word needs to be reviewed in light of the developments in the last few decades.

Everyone is using the word STRIKE. What do you call someone who replaces a pilot who was LOCKED OUT? Midwest pilots were locked out after they refused to fly for Republic wages, and that makes their replacements...

As I said, the term has been around for decades... times have changed, and the methods by way management replaces/outsources/locksout/subcontracts our jobs has also changed.
The definition if the word needs to be reviewed. It very well may apply in this case. IMHO, it does.

Regardless of what rates they negotiate.... they did take those jobs didn't they.... they took them knowing the mainline pilots were basically locked out, right? what would you call it?

RAH was not hiring pilots when the Midwest deal took place and has not hired a single pilot since. All RAH pilots are contractually and legally obligated to fly those planes, UNLIKE struck flying, which they do not have to fly.

On another note I wouldn't be surprised if the company comes after you for posting internal memos. The information you've posted about yourself makes it very easy to find out who you are. Just something to think about before you do it again.
