Any ideas what happened to the Saab in the grass in DTW?

That's where Mesaba is parking the Saabs. They're not going back to Sweden. Just randomly parked in the grass in Detroit. Maybe one in MSP and a couple in MEM. Delta is getting creative. :p

Wonder why they would give up an at-worst, break-even gov't contract when they need to keep their crews flying?

Because they don't give a **** about us! But I've asked that question many times myself. The spokeswoman from Delta was quoted as saying they were withdrawing the bids for EAS because of capacity constraints and a reduction in the Saab fleet. Well if DL has no use for em, why not fly em on the EAS routes and get the "free" money?

Because EAS ISN'T a guaranteed profit. Only a fixed revenue dollar amount. IF fuel, landing fees, wages, maintenance, ect. go up the EAS subsidy doesn't so it can very easily be a money losing deal. There is more to this story we don't yet know, I assure you. Delta wouldn't have to park the planes to withdraw the bid for those EAS routes either. They weren't awarded yet so Delta could have simply said they no longer felt thier bid was viable and withdrew. They didn't.....

I guess you're right. I guess I always figured they would get rid of 200's before Saab's. I had always heard that Saab's were cash cows for them...I guess not.

Hey! The Saab is not a cow, a BEAST definitely.......I take that back, August is going to be here soon........

Ahh, summertime in the Saab.

Maybe Delta is just trying to reduce capacity any way possible, and the Saab turned out to be the path of least resistance.
