Wait...regionals get crew meals?
Who else gets crew meals. I found out Skywest got some meals. Trans States doesn't
|
expressjet does
|
ASA does, and did get better ones for a while, but some certain liberties were taken by crews and we now have a fraction of the quality of the ones we had before...
|
Mine does, but not on my aircraft. I don't think my airline likes my airplane, even though we sometimes fly 7 legs/day with no more than 30 minutes between each turn, and make money with less than 50% load factors. But 1/2 an hour is barely enough time to run down to the crew room fridge or the nearest fast food place (with a long line) to get some food to eat above 10,000ft on the next leg. If I have a flight attendant who is kind enough to offer a bag of peanuts, then I'm grateful and forever in debt. Why does ATC always call right when you're taking a bite of food? They have that timed out perfectly! And then, right after they do it, it's another controller, because the previous one who interrupted your lunch went to the break room to play air hockey and eat his lunch lol.
|
i always hear piedmont asking for them on ops freq

Your doing a 2+ hour flight, not to Mexico, when they should be "serving meals at meal time". So you decide to save yourself the money and just eat what they SHOULD have on the airplane. Only to find out it's nothing but a pretzel party. OR, you fork out the cash for a sandwich because it's a relatively short flight, when they shouldn't be "serving meals at meal time", and the plane is loaded with food. And before some moron pops in with "just call ops and order them". Yes, because thats always such an expeditious process. Caahhhnstahnntly improving our praahhhduks and shervices. |
Scenic Airlines used to pack PBJ's for flight crews everyday!
Other airlines give you a warm glass of "shut the hell up"..... |

Back on topic; it doesn't matter if you fly UAL or DAL, nor does it matter what a/c you’re on (EMB, CR2/7/9), we all get crew meals here at SKW. Although we used to get better crew meals than our current boxes which include Jell-O, a bag of Travel Mix and Graham Crackers. I'm so sick of them that I haven't eaten one in months. I miss the red Pepperidge Farm boxes with Crackers, Parmesan Spread, Salami, Apple Sauce and Milano Cookies. Those were decent Crew Meals. |

Self edited Airwillie. Anyways ASA used to have decent boxes, however, before i was forced to leave they got exponentially worse. Jello and trail mix doesn't compare at all.
|
JetJock, pretty sure no gojet airplanes have first class (700s).

Oh yea and in true Comair fashion we don't get crew meals, just whatever pretzels, peanuts, crackers, Biscoff cookies you can swipe from the FA. |
We don't get crew meals at Comair, but always used to get them from the ASA folks in ATL.
|
lol, the GoJet 700's have 6 first class

Eagle never gave crew meals. Or Christmas bonuses. Or holiday pay. Or....

Yeah I always heard you guys begging for them on the ops frequencies and they would always tell you that they were for ASA only. You guys and other crews still managed to steal them. Other crews taking our crew meals was a big reason why we lost the good ones and now have the crappy ones, so thanks for that.
I have known Diver Driver for a long time and he would never steal anything. Those little Toblerone chocolates would taste even better now knowing that it ****ed you off so bad. Mmmmm Toblerone. But seriously, was a jar of baby food flavored hummus, pita chips and some processed cheese and crackers really so good that you'd really get this bent over it? Wow. What has this profession come to? There will never be solidarity amongst pilots. |
At Piedmont, we have scheduled and unscheduled crew meals. If we work for 6hrs on duty without a 45 min break we receive a meal. Sometimes it is scheduled, sometimes we get delayed and they become unscheduled. In PHL we just go to Au Bon Pain and chose what we want from the selection. LGA's vendor just changed so I'm not familiar with what they are. In CLT they are delivered to the aircraft, normally a sandwich, bag of chips, cookies, M&M's, and an apple.

No meals or food on The Mighty Saab at Mesaba until Big Daddy D came into the picture. Now we have peanuts and cookies, but were losing Saabs.......uh oh

Oh, and before I was furloughed from TSA, we'd occasionally ask catering for a couple of the explus meals and would sometimes get them. Once management found out we were doing that, they told us not to do it anymore and that those meals weren't for us since we weren't an explus carrier. Pretty awesome. |

I think its awesome that we are sitting her debating who gets a better box of thrown together crap. If a box of mystery meat, processed cheese spread, trail mix or a bag of chips and a sandwich the size of your fist are that important to you then maybe you just need to plan ahead for yourself and pack food. Alternatively you could *gasp* crack that wallet open and buy something once in a while. I realize that sometimes time is the issue and that the food in the airport gets boring (an unhealthy!) so packing snacks and stuff are probably your best bet to keep from going hungry.

Horizon is a yes for meals. It was not hard to get. Once you get a whole group of pilots setting the brake, walking through the terminal, waiting in line, sitting down to eat, washing hands, walking back to the airplane..... The 30 minute turns went out the window.

Good luck finding the time to crack open the wallet on a 10-minute turn. I generally go all day without the opportunity to eat or drink anything. I'm tired and dehydrated at the end of most of my days. Combine that with no autopilot, fms, apu, flight attendant, or gps and it all adds up to me being fatigued as hell most days. For me, that's why a crew meal would be important. Oh, and it's hard for me to afford to crack the wallet open on my poverty level wage. |

I just think its funny that we're sitting here talking about crew meals like they are manna sent from the gods. Don't get me wrong, they are great when you are starving and your only other option is to delay a flight for "crew physiological reasons" ie pilots and FAs are humans and must consume food to sustain themselves both physically and mentally. But a little planning on your part will hopefully keep you from reaching that point and they are DEFINITELY not worth spending negotiating capital on. |

Are you seriously that ignorant? Can't say I'm surprised that this is the caliber of human intellect that the bipolar chief pilot at GoJetS would hire. No wonder it gets so frustrating debating with you. You literally have no idea what's going on.

Well, I am B1900 driver too and, here is what I do. I carry a Nalgene water bottle, that I drop my crystal light packs into. If my schedule (I am a Laker also) doesn't allow for a meal break with constant flying, I make a meal break. Haven't had a problem with mgmt about it. If they have a problem, F!!! them, I am a CA and, I won't let either of us fly hungry! I pack my own snacks and food. I also did this when flying E145 at Express Jet. |

You can always make a cup-o-noodles with a little hot water from the galley. Throw in a couple sandwiches from home and eat some soup in ops when you get the longer breaks. I bring some peanut butter from hotel b-fast and make little cookie-peanut butter sandwiches. Sometimes it breaks the bordom of the day to figure out how to eat for free, why would you want to ruin that with crew meals?
My fav is get some ketchup packets, add hot water and there ya go, Tomato soup! I can make most 4 days without spending any money of food, now beer, thats a different story. |
