I never thought of it like that and see your point now, I think though that for the most part regional guys put a good image out there for the profession, at least the guys I know. I guess my main point was the lack of a professional image is not limited to just regional/commuter airline pilots. I think as a whole we keep up a good image of professionalism that we display to the flying public, and maybe just a couple people who are careless with their appearance ruin that ever so slightly. However, I do believe if we were not pilots we probably wouldnt even notice (at least the backpack issue), no excuse for a wrinkled mess of a uniform, but again just my opinion.

So says the fanny pack wearer. Guess what? There just might be a reason why they're wearing those backpacks. Guess what else? There's no difference.

On a lighter unrelated note: Pilots or no pilots, I think fanny packs in general are gay (not that there's anything wrong with that!;)))

I personally have seen way more unprofessionally dressed mainline guys to be perfectly honest, not to mention the half dozen FANNY PACKS I see mainline pilots rocking as I walk through DFW the six times a month as I go through there! come on now whats worse a FANNY PACK or a backpack! HILARIOUS THOUGH!

Fanny pack (Canada, US), belt pack (US), belly bag (US), Buffalo pouch (US), hip sack (US), hip pack (UK), or bum bag (UK, Oceania),

Ha ha ha.. its all pretty HILARIOUS...... My vote is for Bum Bag.. gotta love the brits..

Was on a DTW-TPA NWA flight and the FO, who looked to be early to mid 50's, must have tipped the scales at 400 lbs. Seriously, I cannot see how he passes a Class 1 physical. The funny part was the suspenders he was wearing to hold up his pants and the half untucked shirt. I know some people have weight issues, but if your going to greet pax at the door, have a little pride in your appearance!

That is sooo funny. I saw this same guy in august in DTW getting the paper work going to MCO on the 757. He is just as described with the suspenders and no belt. Plus maybe it was just a hot day but man he was sweaty. It looked very bad but made me feel somewhat sorry for the guy since how could he get out of the cockpit window if he had to let alone it must have been tough going thru the cockpit door.
