Commuting out of Florida
Might be buying a home in Sabastian, fl and wondering home the commute is out of MLB,FLL, or MCO. I'm ASA ATL based but we fly to MLB. Thanks in advance !

I commuted from MCO to STL, with no problems.

All are challenging to ATL if you are Delta Connection. You would not believe how many DL retirees there are in FL (like, all of them!) and they tend to only list the night before a flight. :(
MCO, FLL, MLB are your best bets in order. MLB/DAB are very difficult due to the large number of RJs on the route. MCO has lots of AirTran flights as well and they are likely to treat you better than DL. Good luck. |
MCO-ATL commute is somewhat of a double-edged sword. Although there are many flights throughout the day to choose from, there are many other crew members looking to go the same direction.
I would see what the parking situation is out of MLB since it is closer to Sebastian. Since MLB is an ASA flight, you would have priority on your own airline. Otherwise MCO isn't a bad option with the frequency of flights. |
A friend of mine here at ASA commutes out of MLB, she doesnt really have that much of a problem except during spring break and sometimes summer. Plus Sebastian to MLB is 20-25 minutes! Have fun surfing the inlet!

I missed 4 jumpseats ATL-TPA a few days back, finally got in a j/s on the 5th flight.
|
sebastian is a great place- good waves for being in the east coast. G'luck.

It's a tough commute. I did it myself for about a year. Between Airtran and Delta (MCO-ATL) they have a flight pretty much on the hour, every hour, but can assure you, every man and his dog is going to be on the plane and the J/S will be occupied but a Delta mainline pilot. It was tough about 2 years ago, I can only think it'll be harder now.

Yeah, MLB is the main bet due to me being at the company and now we can reserve the j/s 24 hrs in advance....

Couple of pointers. DAB and MCO......you have Delta and Airtran MLB......only DL You can buy a monthly parking permit at MCO for $36. All you have to do is show your crew ID. DAB is same process, except I forgot how much it is. (Btw, I believe is cheaper than MCO). All rental car companies in FL can rent you a car at one location and drop it at another (within FL only) at no charge. I used Alamo, National, Dollar primarily. Rates can go anywhere from $20 and up (plus taxes). It is a great way to -lets's say- leave out of MLB but return to DAB/MCO, and you have 24 hours to return it. Program their numbers in your phone, believe me you'll use them. The drive from MLB to either DBA or MCO is a breeze. Should not be more than 1:10 without having to speed. If you're moving to the inlet, then another 5-10 min. Hope this helps and I think of something else, I'll post it. Welcome to La Florida!. |

Insurance was checked into from day 1, I appreciate that. Protected land on the other side of the Intracoastal and in a slightly higher than sea-level grade in the neighborhood. Thanks on that Rental Car info EB, I'll be sure to use that !
