Lightspeed Zulu.... way quieter, better clarity, can plug in your music or bluetooth it if you prefer, automatically mutes the music if ATC or someone else in the plane talks. Used in props and the CRJ. Can't even hear the fans in the CRJ with these on. I like the Bose, they are comfy, but the Zulu's seal around the ears is much quieter and more comfy. Thats just my 2 cents.

Also if $150 cheaper than the Bose, and they will let your trade your old lightspeeds up (uo to $500) towards the Zulu's.

Anyone use the Sennhieser HMEC250? I'm thinking of buying it for the Bro.

I haven't had any issues with my BoseX. The batteries last alright (30-40hrs) Then again I have done a lot of CFIing, I don't know if that is as hard on them as the regional life.

In turboprops, there are two kinds of pilots: Those that have the Bose X, and those that want it. Nothing else comes close, and trust me, I've tried a bunch of different headsets (including the piddly UFM/QC2 setup).

That said, my Bose X has been a maintenance hog of late. I've had to send it off to Bose 3 times in 3 years, and I'm outside of warranty, so it's $175 for a full refurbish every time. That said, they have comped that charge 2 of those 3 times. FWIW...

I flew the 1900 before I came to the CRJ so I already had the Bose X. There is no doubt that it is extremely quiet and has good fidelity but it took up a lot of room in my flight kit and seemed like overkill to me. I was looking for on-ear ANR headsets and went with the Telex 850; after using it for two years, in my opinion, it was made for cockpits like the 737 or the CRJ. Cockpits with enough wind noise that you'll want a little ANR without needing much are its forte because unlike the low pitch droning in a turboprop the wind noise is not nearly as harmful or hard to cancel out. The headset had great audio, is much less cumbersome than the Bose and is obviously much lighter (and half the price). My slogan for it would be "everything you need, nothing you don't." The Bose X is perfect for piston or turboprops but for jets I think its largely unnecessary.

im honestly not a fan of the bose. I keep the anr off, when you turn it on sounds like someone is talking in a tunnel. What a waste.

i am right there with you on that one. It is a life saver in small props or turbo-props but in rj's i think you will be better off looking elsewhere. I also use it without the anr but in our noisy erj's it really isnt the best option. I think my next headset will be a telex 5x5 but i need to get my moneys worth out of the bose... which is going to take some time 3.5 yrs in.
