Majors vs. Regional Contracts and Work Rules

We should propose that any regional owned or doing business for a major airline should share the same work rules as the major airline. If you are owned by Delta as a subsidiary, then you would fly by Delta's contract and work rules. If you fly for multiple Major carriers, then you would still be governed by the Major that you are doing business for.

The same thing with the training departments. I think if you are flying for Delta, then Delta should be designing your training department and also overseeing it.

After all, the Major airlines always say that the training at the regional level is no different and that we are all held to the same standard. If that is the case then why don't we do this?

+1.

I agree. Now if only we can get a legislation drafted for this idea...

How about "One level of safety" for everyone. Alot of us fly feed for a couple different legacy airlines, sometimes in the same day. Make it the same for everyone.

That's more of an ALPA/Union thing I think. Why if I work under the union named ALPA as a contractor is it that I'm treated differently by each airline I work for? That makes no sense. Pipe layers, electricians, steel workers, machinists, etc all seem to have the same pay, and work rules no matter who they work for as long as they pay their dues to the same union. In fact I think (don't quote me") that these union workers are phrohibited from working for less than bargained for to avoid undercutting. I'm not sure if this applies to independent contractors. Of course these guys get to choose which ever union they want to use and we are forced to be part of a union and have no choice what so ever. Pretty convenient if you ask me.

I guess we have no one to blame but ourselves. So we can talk about it on a forum all day but unless someone truly takes a stand, nothing will ever come close to changing.

Hell no, XJT for the most part, has much better language. Perhaps when CAL gets their new and improved contract

If you truly believe that XJT has a better contract than CAL, you don't know the first thing about majors. Even though they have lots lots of pay, and pensions, and work rules, it is still much better than any regional contract

Interesting. I've known more than one guy that's gone to CAL that's expressed the following views: Does he wish that he could go back to XJT? Of course not. Does his worst day at CAL top his best day at XJT? Of course. When they get past crappy pay, no insurance for six months, and FINALLY catch up on the pay rate they left on, all the more better. But many of them express a similar sentiment. They wish they there were STILL working under XJT's rules.

Especially as it pertains to scheduling/bidding, DPM's, and vacation language.

Everybody's mileage will vary.

Good point! Why should there be different work rules because you work for a different company. Work rules for truck drivers don't change just because you leave one trucking company and get hired by another. There should be one set of work rules Industry wide. Not just ALPA. It should be made up of any part 121 carrier in the US. And not just an FAA mandated maximum duty day. It should address everything from calling in Fatigued to reserve schedules. If we leveled the playing field as far as QOL at all US carriers, it would only force pay to go up when airlines start to hire again.
