Jobs are lost anytime there is a merger. Saying they won't be is just spin. What they are really saying are things like:
No jobs will be lost until we finalize our merger.
This merger is good for our customers who love to fly larger aircraft since we'll have fewer flights and can now afford to command higher prices for our big aircraft. Supply and demand, Baby!
Any guesses when it will cease to be a hub?
No jobs will be lost until we finalize our merger.

Oh no? Those "outsourced ground handlers" are Regional Elite, composed entirely of XJ and OH employees who were forced into this new organization as a result of the merger. Regional Elite is owned by........drumroll please........Delta. The term outsourced is hanging by a thread. They're also real people, many with 10,15,20 years in who are now on the street.

Define lost. Do you mean every pilot job presently existing will be filled when vacated or only that no furloughs will be made? Do you think the total numbers on the DAL/NWA pilot list will grow, shrink or stay the same over the next five years?

Without sounding like a DB, the article isn't about flight ops jobs lost, it's about ground jobs being lost. And that's why I quoted you. You speciffically mentioned the "outsourced ground handlers". And I would have to agree with Romulus, define lost. Decisions like this end up affecting everyone eventually. One less hub operation (enentually) = less routes to fly = furloughs. Whenever you hear the term "right size", be afraid. Be very, very afraid.

Does this article mention anything about pilot jobs being lost? No. Therfore my comment is valid.
The ground postions are "outsourced" because it's not a "Delta Crew" running the operation. They are not on the Delta Payroll. View them as a regional airline, you may wear the colours but in the end, you're not mainline. Do I feel bad that people are losing there jobs? Yes. I have friends who work at CVG and I know people who have been F'd from OH.
Relax.
It's just my observation.
