Recall Rates
If you are a pilot at an airline that is currently recalling furloughed pilots, what is the acceptance rate? I spoke to a friend at Republic the other day and he estimated theirs was around 50%.
|
All of Air Wisconsin's furloughed pilots have been recalled and are either on property or not. But there are no longer any furloughed pilots on the list at ZW.
A couple of small new-hire classes are in the pipeline. |
There have been two recalls at Piedmont in which 18 people have returned and 4 people have bypassed.....I believe 2 of those have bypassed twice now.
|
XJT sent roughly 175 recall letters and got 112 pilots to accept.

I think traditionally people do not go back after they've been furloughed but with the state of the industry I'm sure a lot more will be going back during these recalls.

The fact that recalls and even trickle-rate hiring is happening is good news all around. |
68 out of the 71 furloughed at Eagle have accepted recall.

If I get a FAM position, I'm not going back to this worthless industry. I want job stability and pension. One furlough is bad enough. No one should fly unless they are ready to accept two or three furloughs, a possible divorce, obesity, gray hairs, a sacrificed home life and no retirement. I love flying, but I just don't know if the sacrifices are worth it. I used to think it was worth it when I was young, dumb and... You get the picture.

As I was doing my walk around a few weeks ago I walked past the poop truck guy. I remember thinking that the guy dumping the poop gets paid more than a 1st year regional FO and in some cases probably a 2nd or 3rd year FO. Looking at the industry from my perspective now, I wonder why anyone is dumb enough to drop the coin we do for a life of low pay and instability. In other news... A guy I used to work with told me his kid just got out of community college last year. He is a physicians assistant making 80k a year. He works Monday through Friday with weekends and holidays off. He can pretty much work anywhere he wants. I want to kick myself in the nuts now. Unless you have a burning desire to sit in the pointy end of a jet and have little ambition for any type of a normal well rounded life, this career makes zero sense. |
