United/USAirways merger: wholly owned

So If this merger goes through, what happens to PDT/PSA, USAirways wholly owned carriers?

Take over the majority of domestic feed, park all the 737s and 320 series?

You know management would love to try... and the pilots would probably let them.

FWIW, when this got all hot n heavy back in the 97 time frame, USAir was going to sell them off. United is not in the wholly owned business.

Since US would be the remaining airline us at PDT and those at PSA are still going to be wholly owned.

Actually, the insiders are saying UAUA will be the survivor.

dashtrash300 04-12-2010 01:30 PM

Maybe if United comes out as the survivor, then maybe PDT and PSA can be on their own.

If United takes control, mainline pay goes back to pre bankruptcy levels. This would be great for the entire profession of course, although our personal short term prospects would probably not be as good.

But keep in mind that Parker himself went out of his way to give that long-winded explanation in CLT last month that any USAirways merger would never ever never never trigger the snapback provision for mainline pilots caused by a change of control. It'd be interesting to see how they dodge that one.

It's actually the other way around... UAL will pay LCC a premium to buy out LCC stock holders... UAL will in the end be the buyer and survivor if this deal goes through. I just read that CAL might make the same sort of play for UAL... where they will pay premium for UAL stock and be the survivor... hence UAL stock jumping a buck today.

WOs get spun off...probably to AWAC or Skywest...or shut down.

Still don't think its gonna happen, though...
